well now I'm shameful... it all started when I bought a ATI 9800pro. I was all happy then I open the box and take everything out. I took the card fan cable and sleeve them. I put the card in, plug the molex, plug the power cord and push power. everything starts. nothing out of the ordinary. suddenly everything stops. I'm like then I smell something... something that I never smelled before... the smoke of burnt hardware after investigation... I inverted the 12v and 5v line in the molex of the card fan cable... which burnt the card and messed up my agp slot. hopefully I could get another 9800 pro card... but I still had to replace my trusty a7n8x ... all that because I sleeved my fan cable too fast...
No worries mate, just earlier I got a 40gig western digi from newegg for $57.50 US w/free shipping. w00t! And now back to our regularly scheduled topic, sorry bout that!
this is another perfectly good reason why i refuse to touch my radeon 9800 pro. , since i dont want to go out and buy another one.
Same here , cost me £250 and since im 15 im not gona have that cash for a new one but i did overclock it to 425, 756 the lesson being: DO NOT INVERT POWERLINES ON A £250QUID CARD! P2D EDIT: you should get the gold from the pin thingy and sell it
If it makes you feel any better I was unscrewing a fan in my PC once, and I don't know how but the screwdriver slipped and went STRAIGHT into my 9800pro. Knocked off a little transistor/resistor/thingymabober on the top. My roommate said I almost cried when it happened. I can't remember any of I, think I blacked out. Suprisingly, it still works!!!
ahh i did this with my 60gig coz i rewired the cable to my case fan wrong and just last week my friend was sleeving his cables, put it all back together and was met with bootdisk failure, apon closer inspection he had pins rounf wrong way on harddrive and burner
