Well i finally got round to changing my main machine from 1xwinSMP to 2 Notfred Vmware clients.

Yes its great. Big PPD jump.....BUT

Fahmon is showing the download as 7hrs ago when it only just downloaded it.

Is there a way to check the Notfreds time settings??

I tend not to worry about the time issues.

I have found that it seems to be more of an FAHMON issue as appossed to a NOTFRED one. FAHMON seems to sort it out after it has completed 3-5% of the WU.

I sometimes get that it was downloaded 156473849 Days ago!

See if it sorts it's self out. If mine doesn't a reboot usually does the trick.

Yeah ignore it mate, FahMon reports some funky Sheeeet with VM's like Keith said!

In fact im pretty sure all 7 of my NotFred clients do that! lol

Just make sure you tick the "Client is on a virtual machine" in FahMon to avoid other weirdness!

As Rob says, as long as you make sure that Fahmon is set to monitor it as a client on a virtual machine, you'll be OK. Notfreds client throws up some strange errors in the window and generally doesn't agree with fahmon, but many of them mean nothing and your WUs will still get back to Stanford and you'll still get the credit :)

[coolamasta said just ignore it and is probably correct]

Sorry for the weeks late reply. Here is how to ask notfreds what time it thinks it is.

Control+G or click in the notfreds window to connect your keyboard to notfreds.
If the window is full of "attempt to access beyond end..." error messages, just press return.
You should have a login prompt. type "root" and press return to log in.
type "date" and press return. The date and time are displayed.

    fold-4321 login: root
    login[8765]
    (snip)
    # date
    Wed Oct 14 21:53:44 UTC 2009
    #

Control+Alt to connect your keyboard to your desk top.

(It thinks it is UTC when it is really BST, but never mind)

I have recently re-installed Windows XP Pro on my main folding machine.
I have installed an FAH console CPU and a console GPU client. They are both displaying
the time as 7 hours out, even though Windows and a command window show the correct time.
FAHmon is not displaying ppd for these two clients. Perhaps it will settle down eventually.

Nice info Arthur, thanks for posting. I assume if yours is also displaying the time as 7 hours out, that the VM is set to a different timezone. No biggie, the work units aren't date and time stamped so they still get credited even if the machine that sent them back to the server has the wrong time.

When I previously wrote that the date command tells you the notfreds date and time, my own notfreds was set correctly. It has since become three days slow. I have just found how to set the time and date in notfreds. Different versions of Linux use different syntax. Here is the notfreds command. Please note that changing the date and time by several days may do strange things. The time is in UTC, which we are on at the moment. In summer it is an hour different.
The format is weird. If you get it wrong, it might be rejected as invalid. Worse, if it is wrong but valid it will be accepted.

To set the date and time to October 25 2009 22:50
    date 102522502009

so the format is MMddhhmmyyyy, meaning month, day, hour, minute, year

On another time related issue, the USA stays on daylight saving another week, until November 1.
The folding statistics will be an hour earlier until then.

It is at the bottom of this page: http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/cmd/cmd.csp?path=d/date

except that page says you can use 09 as the date, but you must use 2009 instead.

I had to try several web pages until I found one that worked with notfreds

If you have better luck with your PCs you might overtake me by Christmas:)
