That single stick of low speed RAM must be hurting the CPU benchmarks because I can get a score of 648 in Cinebench R15 with my 4690K at just 4.2Ghz. (8GB 2400Mhz), and on the odd occasion I have run it at 4.6Ghz, my score is close to 700.

Very odd choice to stick in a single stick of 8GB, 2x4GB would have been far better and I don't think it would cost any more.

I can only think that the builder had a glut of 8GB sticks and needed to use them up.

Probably true but for the price you can hardly argue, I think I'll always build my own stuff for the fun of it but its interesting to know for friends and that things are so cheap in the pre-built space nowadays

Don't also forget that if you want to go for a spec a gen or so behind current and/or lose the warranty, you can always go second hand (or sometimes even first) for much cheaper.
