How does one cure one of those? Is it like a sick mime? Looking forward to when you do start this project up again, it was looking very good
If anyone is interested, I have several boxes in various states of moddage. I plan to finish one and sell it. It will probably have a small window of some sort for a vfd to show through. One I have lying here has side mounted 40mm fans for cooling and was designed to be a HTPC and is oriented sideways like a video or DVD player.
My new fans arrived today. I've installed the fans and a black vandal resistant power button. I got my 40Gb drive back from a friend so Windows XP Pro has been installed on it. All the games patches and so on have been transferred over and pcAnywhere XP is installed on the PC. Everything is automated so I just have to plug in power and network, then I can use pcAnywhere to access the fileserver over the network. Pics 80mm White LED Coolermaster fan Mmmmm glowy The other side These fans are excellent! Not too loud while still pushing a fair amount of air. The LEDs are super bright and the white models look so crisp and clean, especially in an aluminium box. Power button. I don't know whether to put my stainless steel one in instead Night shot
I should also point out that I re-cut the lid and didn't put any activity LEDs in. All that is installed is the power switch. I have removed the power cut-off switch from the PSU because it's hardly ever going to be open. I also haven't put a filter on the fan. I might still do this. I might even reduce the fan speed because the Epia hardly generates any heat at all.
nice project, nice and sleek and clean, mind if i ask where you got that psu, i just noticed it was fairly small and is exactly what i am looking for fo my htpc project and i think i would like the stainless steel pwr button instead of that black one thanks
Rather nice, but why not rig the LEDs on the fans up for the indicators? Just connect the wires up, and hook em to headers.
Then maybe a dual colour backlit "file anywhere" logo, or make the power button lit (see bulgin vandal switch guide).
Lol... the project is complete I'm after a simplistic look. Besides, it looks superb sitting on a desk with nothing but power and CAT5 plugged in.
where did you get the motherboard i/o plate by the way i might be making one of these boxes and i dont know where to get em from.
