That's an easy one, it will be by taking back control. ;)

It'll be interesting to see how fast mobile companies backtrack or take advantage of the lack of a need to allow roaming at the same rates.

Kinda rubbish for me as I use my mobile as my access to the internet when I'm in Italy.

Hopefully Three continue to be awesome and retain full EU coverage...

Given they only introduced it 'cos the EU literally forced 'em to, I'm going to respond to that with a hollow laugh.

You Plebians have had far too many rights given to you by these Europeans busy bodies, time to free ourselves from those pesky shackles so that our friends from Eton can take back control of the market forces...

Regarding Three, and the prospect of them carrying on the roaming charge conditions after brexit.
I was in a store on Friday looking at a new Samsung phone, and part of the sales pitch was the inclusion of the non roaming charges speech....which i also smirked at.

I totally disagree with Geo blocking (especially in a retail sense). How can the same item be a different price from Yorkshire to Oxfordshire?
They are completely manipulating the market and taking the pish.

Actually IIRC I was on Three and got to use my data etc in Europe before they introduced the general roaming thingy a me bob. This was years ago BTW.

AFAIK they've extended it to other countries including Aus and NZ.

Yea they did, but I believe this was after it was announced that it would be a thing.

IIRC Three started offer it when the EC kicked the idea of it being a thing around as a way of one-upping the competition... everyone else got on the bandwagon when it was announced it probably would be a thing in an attempt to play the 'we're doing it because we care, not because they're about to force us to' card.

Ah ha righto. Looks like the cheapesr sim is 13 quid.

I expect use in EU will only happen if you pay for it again as well then.

What am i saying 'expect'? The government changing things rarely makes things cheaper.

Three introduced it years earlier. In 2007 you could roam to other countries with Three/Hutchinson networks, and it got expanded to other nations from 2013 (e.g. US, I used this myself back in 2014 without issue). The rollout to remaining EU countries did occur before the EU directives were published, but only by a bare two months: August 2016 announcement for Three going into effect in September 2017, end of September 2017 for the EU directive to be proposed, Feb 2017 to actually be passed and June 2017 to go into effect.

Am I the only one who didn't mind roaming charges (for all the wrong reasons)?
They provide an excuse to go off the grid the second I'm over the border without having to feel bad.
