Surely the owners of the game can bring a class action against Ubisoft? They were supposed to be sold an official copy and instead they got a pirated version...

Still, news stories don't get much better than this! :p

This is clever on Ubisoft's part!

If anyone comes forward and claims responsibility, Ubi can just take them to court..

I'd imagine the motive for doing this was to get around some in-company beurocracy / authorisation to speed up the ability to realease which is better for their bottom line but some top dudes will be confused and angry while some bottom dude just got them some cash quicker and a bollocking

Nah, Ubisoft couldn't find a torrent for stamps yet, so they can't currently send out any P45.

'Dude, can you find the files for the OST on the server anywhere?'
'Nah, I think you named them all weird, I'll just torrent it - it'll be quicker'

''PC gamers quickly discovered, however, that the patch was actually just an existing
NO-CD hack by pirate group Reloaded.''

That's pretty much what I did when I made the installers for Postal 2 ect for the RWS store, but I'm surprised a company like Ubisoft would resort to such half arsed methods :)

    ROFL.
Guess if they ever find Ares13, they can't really take him to court, as they're reselling his (admittedly pirated) version of the OST... Whihc means they're making income from his work, which I am sure there are various laws to wangle this with... complex sh*t, legally...

While I don't think it's a matter of Ares13 sueing them, it could possibly be made into a "get out of jail free" car for whoever Ares13 is, by a clever lawyer or 2

Wow, what a muckup & how on earth could this happen :eeek:.

"This isn't the first time that Ubisoft has distributed illegal versions of its own software, however. Back in 2008 Ubisoft released a patch for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 which allowed players to run the game without the CD in the drive. PC gamers quickly discovered, however, that the patch was actually just an existing
NO-CD hack by pirate group Reloaded."

Could this mean Reloaded actually fixed something ubisoft couldn't, lmao incredible :D.

oh yes i remember this. :D

you'll only hear about these wacky stories from Ubi.

    pirated music?
    no-cd cracks?
    online only only drm? (formerly)

i honestly have no clue as to what their next blunder will be.

Cool. If game companies pirate stuff I guess I shouldn't have any moral inhibitions about it.

I think this is pretty much what happened.

At the risk of starting the unending piracy debate all over again, this reminds me of Ghandi breaking the law by picking up salt from the sea shore.

I wonder if this is included in those piracy statistics that keep being thrown around?

    Pirate your own stuff
Release statistics showing how your stuff was pirated to hell and back
    ???
    PROFIT!!

Beat me to it! The number of times I have had to download my photos back off websites because I had a lax moment and deleted them.
