Anyone know anything about flytraps? Mine has grown some kind of appendage and it won't stop growing.
It'll turn into a tiny flower in a few weeks. It hapenend to both of mine! Apparently they only flower if they're very happy with their environment. I don't know if that's true though. ch424
I'm glad I'm not the only person in the universe who's actually seen this. One of my friend's recently got a Venus and after I quoted that, I may as well have suggested raping small children...
To cpemma whose Venus Fly Trap only lasted 1 week; did you feed it tap water or rain water? The former will kill it as will setting off the traps without providing sustinence, long-time dead flies don't count either! Also you should water it from below (in a dish) rather than from above and they also like very wet, boggy conditions so keep the water topped up. Hearing they (possibly) grow that wierd appendage when happy is ironic. My kids' Venus started growing it but it was desperate to be repotted, I repotted it, topped it up with the rain water I had saved and all seemed well. Until it didn't rain for over a week, the appendage fell off and it got seriously close to death! It seems to be just hanging on but where have the flies all gone to? I usually swat the flies then feed them to it but the blighters are all hiding. Grrr ...
I was just reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_fly_trap and it had some very nice information which agrees with most everything said in this thread. Wikipedia bascially explained in more detail everything(?) that I read in this thread. Plus it had a couple cool pictures of the plant. L J
