mount the pump as in pic 2 but make sure you set it far enough back to clear the hdds that may be in teh rack cause iirc they stick out the back a bit... :/
how tight are those hoses on the fittings? what happens if water leaks on cards etc.? is the pump noisey?
Yeah, that's the crappy part... no matter how I mount the pump it's going to block at least one of the HD spaces in the rack. He'll probably never fill up the 120 gb drive anyway, but it'd be nice to have as many extra spaces for HDs as possible. The pump will be mounted on rubber grommets, so it won't make any noise at all. I've already had the w/c system together once and ran it for a bit, the pump is just about silent as is. I figure a little extra vibration protection can't hurt though.
I just don't think the pump will fit in there at all, without any modification of the 5 1/4" bays. As it is now, I can't afford to lose any more of those, since there's only one open after the bayres is mounted. I can check tonight, but I'm pretty set on mounting the pump as it is in the 2nd picture.
That's cool, your mod, I was just curious. It does look like a tight fit. Is it bad for the pump to mount it upside down?
just a sugestion, but u could mount the pump like in the second pic, but change your intake barb from straight to a 90 deg pointing up, that would make all the hd mounts usable
Got all the w/c stuff mounted in place, clamped, and started on the ol' 24 hour leak test. I also threw the pc parts together to make sure everything works, and about **** myself. Didn't boot up right away, so I went through the typical troubleshooting routine and took out the vid, then the ram, then finally the processor. Looked at the pins, and blam, 2 of them were bent. Between my stepdad and I, we managed to bend them back straight without breaking any, put it back in, and it booted up like nothing ever happened. Whew. On with the pics, again! Pump in it's new location, fits like a glove. Well, after I trimmed it down a bit, anyway... Had to route the power cord somewhere, and I noticed this nice little hole in the drive cage... but the tab underneath was blocking the cord from going through. A little dremel action later, and that's not a problem any more. All the w/c gear hooked up, starting leak testing. All the hoses have been cut to their final lengths (I think). Just a few more shots of the system during leak testing. There are still a few bubbles though, dammit. Last shot, of the pc testing phase. I <3 that monitor, woo boy. End of update, I'm going to work on it more on Thursday.
Got all my **** in one pile, and put everything together. Now, all I'm waiting on is the right vid card, and it'll be good to go. I haven't tested out the OC potential yet, though. That will have to happen soon. As usual, on with the pics. Biggity bam, bitch... no more bubbles. Bare processor, with the studs for mounting the waterblock in place. I forgot to take a pic after I put AS3 on it. Thar it is, mounted and tightened down. Looking good so far. Better angle: Helo thar crappy old video card. You'll work nicely for testing the gpu block, I guess. Hopefully the right card gets here soon Vid card in place and gpu block mounted, here's what the w/c system looks like: Mmmm, looks good so far. Let's format some ****, eh? There she be, Win2k installed (temporarily), purring along nicely. Sweet PC plus sweet monitor = mmmmmmm... Look at that rat's nest, I'll have to see if I can clean that up a bit before I ship it out. Well, it's pretty much done so far, I'll post benchmarks and stuff once I get it formatted with WinXP and oc'd as far as I can push it.

The pump fits so snugly in there and looks so neat. Good job. Wanna know what OC your gonna get with that setup now
You can get a right-angle barb for the pump input, that'll keep your cages useable. I use one on goliath and I didn't cut the flow rate down too much (enough for me to noice at least). If you can get a LARGER barb than 1/2" ID for your pump inlet and get the same as an output from your res, you'll be golden. The Eheim 1250 (as stated somewhere on procooling) does massively better when it has a full 3/4" inlet to pull water through... to the tune of (IIRC) 45 or 50 Gallons/Hour better!
damn that's sexy. thanks for your reply to my questions earlier. what'd you have planned for the top of the case, radiator hole? i've seen some nice mesh type covers done that look pretty good. seems like the blowhole cut and the inevitable window should be about all you have left. great job! looking forward to seeing the finished project. so if this is what the computers you build for your friends look like. what does YOUR computer look like?
Hey nice work man thats damn sweet. Where did you end up putting you hard drive. Is the pump screwed down, with vibration mounts? Sc0rian
