Education We Like to Ride Bicycles

I've got some similar to that... Just don't go leaning your bike against your mums kitchen wall and then watch in terror as it falls over leaving a massive black line....

 

I never liked that tiny knurled pattern, always felt like I was peeling bits of rubber off my hands after each ride... I prefer a chunker lock-on like the lizardskins northshore:

 

i used to love my lock-on grips. it made taking them off and on so much easier than prying them off. and then after i installed my new levers last week i put them back on and stripped one of the bolts as i was tightening it up. i hope it doesn't have to come off anytime soon, because it's going to have to be drilled out i think.

darkreaper - don't you ride with gloves? i'd be peeling rubber off my hands too if i rode bare-handed.

 

Can anyone recommend some full finger gloves that are good for riding in the summer and when it gets a bit colder?

Not cheap, but amazing gloves. Been wearing them all summer, and have nothing but praises for them. Still in top notch condition despite daily use (absolutely no signs of wear, other than the sweat-stained leather). Plus they dry really quickly, keep your hands sheltered from the wind, and breath really good.

Go through glass like nothing as well

It's an unbelievably light and extremely fast bike, and being in hilly Hampshire the compact crankset is a real bonus, especially at 7 in the morning '-_-

^ They do, my one is red, I'll get a snap of it, but it's a ****-hot red.

AVG speed around 19-21mph on the flat, up to ~24 if I'm drafting. Downhill I can keep up with motor vehicles

 

Recombent easier to ride?

I have a Beach Cruiser - 26" single speed that I ride a few miles a week. I have been "asked" by one of my Drs. to do a bit more.
My questions:
Are recumbent styles less impact than riding a regular bike? I have been looking at a trike and am going to try one this weekend. This is the style I have in mind:

Most of my riding is on the flats no Mt. bike stuff even though I live in Colorado.

If your riding on flat flats then I see no reason why this style of bike would not be ideal, certainly would be the most comfortable (no erectile dysfunction for you), although, having never ridden one, how on earth would you get it up a hill? Wouldn't all your weight would be at the back end making it a struggle, as opposed to getting out of the saddle?

 

Wonder how wet and dirty you'd get riding that trike in the rain.

I have a road bike but it's over 10 years old and was cheap back then so it's just a commute bike I do not worry about. It's as heavy as my mountain bike (which in itself is heavy) but it is much faster than my mountain bike with slicks rather than knoblies.

 

recumbents put your head at standard suv bumper height, and make you harder for drivers to see. beach cruisers, on the other hand, are frecking awesome. especially if they have flowers painted on them.

i'd say keep your bike unless it's hurting your back, or maybe switch for a bike with gears, but recumbents are lame.

Well today was my second bicycle ride in over a decade (went to sainsburys yesterday), and it took me over two hours to get to work (officially it's 9.9 miles but I got lost along the way and took a lot longer)!

Anyway, someone said to me that it sounds like I have an "unhappy chain" what is this?

 

Are the gears are not correctly indexed and they are trying to jump about?

 

Blah?

Bike was from Halfords, nothing in the instructions about indexing the gears?
