Think thats to do with the Specialized Tarmacs and above. I know I read something about this recently.

EDIT: Found the link with the recall if anyone needs more info http://ibd.specialized.com/media/whatsnew/Specialized-Important_Safety_Inspection_UK_Forks.pdf This affects 2012-2013 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Crux and 2013 Secteur Disc Bicycles

Really? If you have, brilliant. Reading the spec says they're aluminum now. I know that from a sport upwards the older bikes had a carbon fork.

They have a carbon fork, but an aluminum steerer apparently.

As I said I've not really given it a good run yet, but I intend to get out on it more in the coming weeks, especially as it gets lighter in the evenings, and I'll be able to properly report back then.

Ah ok, worth remebering if you're ever in the market for a second hand Spec though.

It will be muddy! hasn't really been un-muddy in sussex all winter, it's been doing my head in. I have been running 2.1 panaracers for the mud, zip straight through it, and send most of it up my back.

Well, had a day off an the weathers been kind so decided to move the big anchors from the commuter to the XC bike as they felt so much better in use. So ive gone from 160mm fronts to 203's Ive ordered a set of 185s for the rears.
Also debating getting some paint an spraying the frame Nothing fancy im looking at using a tin or two of plastidip spray its removable. What do you guys think?

Just as a heads up: that fork isn't designed to cope with the forces a brake like that can put through it. While I'm not going to tell you not to ride it, I am going to urge you towards the side of caution and say that you should be checking the fork up and down for any cracks, separation, deformation, bending or just anything out of the ordinary.

More than one of these forks have passed by me in several pieces from similar usage.

Oops didnt realise that, What sort of forks would you recommend? Ill air on the side of caution braking for now. I serviced them early jan and saw no signs for fatigue bending etc/ Obviously if they are a risk ill be looking to swap them sooner rather than later.

It's just the size of the rotor and the quality of the fork paired with the qr dropouts. Most forks that have an axel support all sizes of rotor.

How much travel do you want and what kind of riding do you do? and is your front hub convertible else you will probably have to get a new front wheel as well.

Its a Deore M590 hub so i dont think it is convertible.
Travel for the shock 75-100mm is fine.
Riding its mainly XC with a bit of light DH in a local forest so a nice mix of mud roots and sand. Theres so DH runs but i know my bikes not up for those.

Finally got back on the bike today.

Went out and got completely shitted up, :D, should have taken a photo really, although by the time I got back most of it had gone.

Got to one point where I had to push the bike along as the tyres were just caked in mud and wouldn't grip at all, damn horses.

So, spent 3/4 of an hour riding, then 2 hours cleaning it.

Need to find somewhere more interesting to ride that's local.

Anything from a name brand really: Marzocchi, Fox, Rock Shox, Manitou, that sort of thing. Find what is in your budget with the travel and features you require. Keep in mind though that XC forks really are not designed with larger rotors in mind and it will often invalidate your warranty as a result. But buying used skirts around this issue nicely and bags you a good deal often times. So I'd say just take a look through a local cycle classified for something suited to you from a larger manufacturer, as the chance of a compromised fork will be much less with something of quality up front.

As I said before though: you're probably fine if you just take a few precautionary measures (such as inspecting before every ride) and don't do anything too silly on the bike, so don't feel pressured into running out right this minute to get a new fork or anything.

Thats ok then. To be honest i was looking to get a new set of forks this year anyway. Spare for this one are becoming sparse unfortunately

Ill have a nose at the LBS he has a classified listing and often gets used parts in which are in good nick if not ill see what else is about.

Ordered a pair of Endure Hummvee 3/4 other day. Arrived today, turned out to be a bit tight round the waist. (odd as I got medium, and I'm only a 31-32" waist).

Decided to send them back to CRC and get the large.

And now, CRC have no Endura products on their site at all. :D

Luckily, the bike shop in town has got Endura stuff, so I'll go there when I get the refund from CRC.

Did the Epic route (35miles) & in the end would say 10% of it was muddy the rest was really dry, was a pretty lucky day i think stayed nice all day.

Awesome! Did you have a good ride? It was really dry where I was riding as well! Had a great weekend riding.

Built my new bike on friday evening

Am not running my crossmax wheel on the rear as I didn't realise I needed a spacer to run a 10 speed cassette on the hub - so have ordered that it should be here tomorrow I reckon. Was a whole lot of fun to run! Took me a while to get the front mech set right.
