Wont the proprietary file system and that the HDD maybe keyed to the main PCB preclude the possibility of changing the HDD.

Damn that Xbox motherboard is a mess compared to the PS4.

It reminds me of all those comparison shots of the Sega Saturn vs PS1 motherboards back in the day.

The Xbox engineers should be ashamed of themselves...

considering a lot of games are being sold digitally being able to just swap in a better hdd or ssd is a pretty cool option for a console. kinda glad they at least got to that point of easy access upgrades..... and kinda sad they dont let you tweak the rest of it without voiding the warranty(would be nice to beef up the airflow and tweak in a small overclock to make sure there arent any hickups).... tho really it doesnt matter much to me because i wouldnt be caught dead buying a 500$+ console when i could just use it to get/improve a gaming rig o.o

Is it me or does the PS4 have a significantly larger heatsink?

It is strange isn't it? Of course only time will tell and perhaps the new Xbox is bullet proof, but it reminds me of the last consoles. Question is, how do they do it twice in a row?

Seems obvious which one is neater.

I'm no expert though - they've both improved. In comparison to last time:

oh yeah. My images are out of date then... still; it's all about the next year. Let's see the failure rate then. (Disclaimer; I have to say I'm more a Sony console gamer, but for the people involved with either I hope there isn't anymore red ring / yellow light type fiascos)

i'm waiting for someone to install an ssd, maybe that will improve game loading times.

they examined the harddrive it has several ntfs partitions, so we may be able to clone it onto a bigger drive

I can strip down my PS3 and toast the mobo with the heatgun in about 30mins now. Probably a sign that its life is in jeopardy.
