I already have 2 GB's of Ram. Does the 2 extra GB give you an performance boost or isn't it worth the money. Thanx already
short answer: No. (somewhat) long answer: 4 GB Ram wont give you an advantage in many applications, in the ones that would the rest of the system would bottleneck it... 2 GB is enough atm... i'd wait till ddr3 drops in price and then buy 4 GB of it sometimes next year.
Depends what OS you are running, Vista will make a diff, even if it's 32-bit and limited to 3.25gb it makes a noticeable difference
well.. yes and no... yes if you run ms bloatware (srry, vista) in default config... no if you strip down vista to the point where it doesnt have all the useless stuff anymore.
Vista will only use up what it wants depending on how much RAm you've got and how much is free (you fanboy). Doubt you'd see much of a performance difference TBH, maybe later.
from what i can understand: -for 32bit, 2gig is perfectly fine -for 64bit, 4gig is better. so i have bought 2gig for my q6600, and will be buying 4 more gigs to get up to 6gig when upgrading to 64bit
ive been on vista 64 now since release, and have started to struggle on 2gb and readyboost, so im going 4 gig soon. so in 64 bit you shall se a difference, in 32bit it is far less pronounced
Personally i think RAM is one of the most understated parts of a PC. Though it does depend what type of programs you use though. I play a fair bit of MMO's, which have a habit of eating RAM for breakfast. A few years ago i upgraded my old PC from 1GB to 2GB, the performance difference in WoW was immense I haven't tried 2GB in my PC: but with 4GB, after the 1st time initial game load for bioshock, the level changes are lighting quick had to swap to 64bit XP to get the full 4GB to be detected though
I went from 1 gig to 2 gigs and the difference was very noticable. Under vista you defently need 2 gigs. Only problem is that my old memory would work together with the new one. otherwise I had had 3 gigs of memory. Does anyone have a solution to this? I dont think so but its worth te try thanx already for all of the answers
If you did that then there is sod all point of having vista in the first place imo. I've had 4gb on both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista, you can tell the difference between 2 and 4, (I had a period where 2gb was being rma'd) With 32-bit I think you have to install with 2gb and then do the updates and then plug the other 2gb in, and you do get a performance increase, I found it quite noticeable. My rig is similar to dimebar's in most respects and I trust him
Not sure what you are getting at bbq. A quick note with running 4gb on a 680i, no point in getting 8500 or above. I had 4gb of 9200 flex xlc to start with and it won't run stable above 1000mhz. (2gb would without much problem) So you are better off getting some 6400 and OC'ing it (or run it at stock like I do) OR get some 8500 that's not oc orientated (some OCZ sli stuff would suit). But in answer to your question yes get 4gb, just don't spend loads on high performance stuff because you won't get it running flat out
I think I stick with the 2 gigs at the moment, Going for 4 on my new rig. Directly to ddr3, I don't really need a new one at the moment. I can do everything with it what I want to do with it
