Well...I'm gonna actually be buying my own first (road) car soon...

    ...And I've been thinking.

I'm going for a diesel anyway (cheaper, yo) and I am beginning to lean toward getting a small van (Escort or Astra based one).

Does anyone know what's available/what I'd be looking at insurance-wise?

I realise that a van would be relatively hard-run but I could really do with the lugging-stuff-around ability.

Can't answer any of your questions, but I can say that a work friend of mine is buying a Citroen(sp?) van and it's extremely cheap @ less than 8k NEW and group 4 insurance or something silly like that.

EDIT : It's actually much cheaper than that I'm sure, can't remember what but if you want more details I could ask him tomorrow.

Not gonna be able to afford much over a grand to buy it...

    Plus insurance et cetera...

Could you ask him if he knows of any insurance companies that would be more specialised toward vans (and possibly cheaper)?

    Thanks. :)

My pop got a wee ex-Post Office Escort for £1200 last year.

8 years old with 74k on the clock. He has to put in a new clutch - it's PO life plus the big trailer he tows now and again has killed the clutch. £160 for the new clutch fitted. Fairly economical, he gets 50mpg out of it (1.8D). I think it has 80k on the clock now.

It's better than the Pug 504 pickup he had before - it had the old 2.3 XD-IV diesel engine that did 25mpg if you were very very lucky.

Something in me wants a British Gas Corsavan.

Only so I can relable it British Gash and 'edit' the flame logo to something a little ruder...

Does anyone know how much it'd cost me to insure a Bedford Minivan? Can't find out what group they are on the net.

    I'm considering getting one...
