Bobby wasn't happy he could only afford a 40m yacht instead of the full 50m this year.

CoD in its 36th iteration (slight exaggeration) made $500 million in 3 days (no joke), so clear out your desks you unproductive slobs.

Frankly it's surprise that they are admitting to the layoffs at all.

Normally Acti-Blizzard's modus operandi is to hire on contracts that expire shortly before the release date of a given project, then not renew them. They don't make anyone redundant you see, they just come to the natural end of their employment period, which is always just before any review/sales bonuses in that contract would be paid.

They've been at this for twenty years now, that they are just doing it openly says they feel emboldened by getting away with it for so long.

    VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET.

I've been boycotting Activision for years, looks like it will be for a while longer too.

"The majority of those staff, Activision Blizzard has claimed, will come from its support staff rather than development staff - and, in fact, the company is eager to increase staffing on that front, pledging to increase its development staff... "
This is, of course, why they shuttered two studios.

I mean, on the one hand, Candy Scourge King. On the other... "We are literally decimating our staff, but it is all support... hang on while we fire two studios full of developers."
Never thought the guys that killed King would end up being the BAD GUYS in that story.

"In-game execution was inadequate in some of our franchises..."

Translation: "The suckers figured out that loot boxes and micro-transactions are not worth it"

Given that Activision reported in 2017 that half of its income came from in-game purchases, you'd think that they would have wanted to diversify their income stream a little better, rather than continuing to focus on flogging dead horses.
