In the past I have had systems power up, although not post, when I have forgotten to connect the 4 pin PSU header. Just read the manual, check the other switches on the mb, EPU/TPU, probably wont make any difference, but can't hurt to try. Les
I quick google, show other people with the same or similar problem, saying they had to reset CMOS or remove battery to get the system to power on. I would contact Asus Tech Support( I have found them really helpful in the past) and they will advise about RMA. Les
Well in the past I have contacted Asus first, when I have had a DOA board.(It has only happened twice in several hundred builds) They have then advised me to RMA the board. You could probably go straight to scan, I always think it's more definitive if you have spoken to Asus first. Les
The more I research about this motherboard, the more I see about it not working and also DOA too, so I guess I got unlucky with this motherboard then!! Time to get this swapped out... hopefully with little hassle! To all - thank you very much for your help & advices. Hopefully I wilolo be back up & running with the new setup very soon!.
The motherboard is supposed to power up even without a CPU or any RAM inserted. The board is dead, RMA it. For future reference, you can also test a PSU without plugging it into a motherboard by shorting the green wire in the ATX connector to a black wire (e.g. with a paper clip) and then connecting the PSU to mains.
That's what I thought too. I took everything off, leaving just the PSU connected to the motherboard. Upon powering on, the PSU fan doesnt even spin at all. That's where I knew the board is DOA. Thanks for the additional confirmation. Yeah, did that as well. Confirmed working fine. Cheers, I'm just hoping the replacement will be quick!
Now that the replacement motherboard is on the way back, I am interested to know the answer above. Will the 4 pins be enough for this motherboard? What will it give me if I plug both pins (2 x 4 pins, making 8 pins) - will it give me more stable system? Or makes no difference (apart from using more power) Just curious... thnaks.
It will likely make no difference whatsoever, but if you do have an 8-pin cable, why not plug it in? The four additional pins are just soldered in serial with the first four in both ends, so the only difference is that a single wire and connector pin has to carry less current. However, molex connectors and wires are rated rather high, and four pins should be perfectly fine for a <100W CPU. But again, why not if you have the wires?
