Hey, as my cyberlink 8 isn't letting me play any blu rays and they are arses who won't patch it to sort it out I was wondering if anyone knew of any decent blu ray playback software for free or very cheap? I mean I'm surprised there's no vlc blu ray player yet or something lol. Thanks
Both ZoomPlayer & VLC will play BluRays - but only already decrypted movies (I don't think either can handle BluRay menus). VLC can play some encrypted material with a couple of workarounds, but still can't handle menus. The problem with free products is that the license fee for BluRay is quite steep, which is why we haven't seen a free version yet. The best alternative to Cyberlink is ArcSoft TMT5, but it isn't cheap.
Sadly none of those could play The Hunger Games Guess I'll have to buy a blu-ray player when they come cheap in the future. I just used a trial of Cyberlink 12 for now.
I though XBMC still needed a decrypter like AnyDVD HD, and also had trouble with BluRay menus (especially BD-J menus)?
I gave up looking for a cheap/free software a while ago, just couldn't find one that wouldn't require decryption programs and all that hassle. Ended up buying Total Media Theatre 5 and I love it. There is often some kind of discount you can get for it too.
Anyone used this, or am I going to have to put down £55 for Arcsoft (I'm not giving Cyberlink penny of my money)
I just can't trust DAplayer at all, seems like a rootkit infection waiting to happen. If its free, it should be opensource
Agreed! The Win8 Media Center pack doesn't support BD playback does it? Alternatively, it seems liek Corel WinDVD Pro 11 is the cheapest at $50
