Is it just me that think it's wrong that you've got to get a petition going to get proper key config (or any other settings for that matter) settings in PC games ports nowadays? :grr:

Yeah, it's good that it's being added but dammit, it should be there to begin with.

That's excellent news. I just wish that it didn't take a petition to get it.

Even aside from the question of adaptions for specific disabilities, it does seem that games are getting more restrictive in terms of how far you are allowed to customize control schemes, key bindings etc. -- I don't see why we can't just be left to map out controls how we like.

EDIT: yeah, agree with DarkFear too. Glad I am not the only one that finds this annoying.

Ha! I was just about to post that!

On the other hand, I'm surprised they're actually planning to patch DS2. I mean, the first one never got a patch, did it?!

The Dead Space franchise can't be the only games with limited button compatibility. Which begs the question

why hasn't something like this come up before ?

    probably has actually...

So you don't really need AA implementation do you? ;)

Customization is always something to include, whether it be control mappings, graphics or gameplay. Sod "The way it's meant to be played", I want to play it the way I want.

getting games to work without multi patches .. let alone being able to configure them, seems to be an issue with some software companies .. mentioning no names ... <cough> fallout... <cough>

Someone should buy the guy a razer mouse, at least that way it's fully configurable in the drivers

Becuase someone who does not have full range of motion in one or both hands can change the key bindings to suit them. Allowing keys to be mapped to the mouse presumably also allows other, niche disabiltity control interfaces to be used.

do we know if he actually contacted the devs first with his issue?
things these days seem to go to petition without them actually trying a more normal and less public route first

i would imagine the problem is becoming more prevalent due to the increased number of ports, considering the menu sometimes has instructions telling you to press an xbox controller button for choosing things, i'm not surprised they don't bother with key mapping

I think it's cute and naive to assume that the developers would a) see his request to begin with and b) have the resources available to implement it.

The only reason why a public response was made is because it was made a public issue. Nobody at EA would have given a **** about the lack of binding options if it wasn't for the fact that disability was included. No doubt they will use it as an opportunity to spin the game in a positive direction.

Really, what this goes to show is that while graphics, atmosphere, storytelling are being pushed farther and farther, basic things that should be fundamental to a game's design, including accessibility options, are still ignored by developers. While I commend EA and Visceral for trying to improve the situation, it should never have been like this in the first place.
