It's because they just the credit card from people, otherwise comparing the charts would be giving the potential new mac user too much freewill.

    :p

Look at it from your average consumer point of view though, I HIGHLY doubt that chart is far off the mark if Linux was presented to your average computer user who can already barely keep himself/herself safe from clicking on viruses, filling out fake nigerian spam, installing every single program known to man (and then some), and make a mess out of the easiest possible things to install and use.

"what most costumers want" is really no indication of of anything. Most people are stuck with windows.
Familiar is just the same, doesn't make the product better (I know a BSOD more than I want).
Easy to use? I'd vote for linux. Just look at the windows network configuration and you'll know what I mean.
Intergrates with digital home? I live in a solid house made of bricks, not bytes.

Now, if they would list things as safety and stability, linux would be even more on top, so they don't.

I went to Wikipedia to look up Acorn and ended up making these.

When I were a wee lad, we had a ZX Spectrum, Acorn, Tandon and 386 IBM compatible. I remember dad sitting with me at the Spectrum typing out lines of code for a basic space/orbit program. It took all afternoon, but we got there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would seem to me to be an 8" floppy drive - not a 5 1/4" one.

Hm. Are you sure? The 5 1/4" floppies I've used did not have that "flap" or "lid" in front of the slot - they all employed a small lever you had to twist down in order to lock the floppy in place. It still looks like a double-height 8" to me, but it's a little hard to get a sense of scale in that picture.

As a side-note; I've still got an old 5 1/4" drive sitting around (and a bag full of floppies with assorted software and porn on them - yes, they were slow!) - as well as an old 8" drive that I'm wanting to mod into a nano-itx computer. :D

Some of the old RM machines used to have the pull-down flap on their 5 1/4" drives, but the real give away is the lack of the write protect notch on the 8" floppy.

I remember the days of the 5 1/4" floppy - I used to have the little notcher to cut out an additional write protect notch so that you could flip the disk and use both sides for writing - high tech!

When 3.5" floppies were introduced, we were flabbergasted - 720K on a single disk - wow! Then double-sided came in, and 1.44Mb seemed huge. My first HDD was 20Mb, and I thought I'd never fill it.

It was all just downhill from there...

All this reminiscing is making me feel old :sigh:
