How much methane do you think that announcement added to the atmosphere?

 

Fighting climate change is practically a capitalist cause, so yes of course they will.
Just take the insurance industry for example:

Skeptical, but optimistic.

 

At least it's giving off the right message in that going neutral isn't good enough.

Mind you, it's not just about the carbon.

 

I'd like to look at this in a positive way, at least intending to head in the right direction, what they end up achieving who knows, but to me it's like people saying they're going vegan, even if they just end up removing 1 meat based meal a week that's positive progress (in that aim), so I'm all for it.

Also of course might have a knock on with other companies not wanting to be outdone by MS leading to others aiming for similar goals?

 

If their actions match their words, good on them.

 

Always some with the cynicism and criticism. I'm no fan of the big corporates, but as pointed out above, good on MS for at least taking a stance no other greedy bstrds have bothered to.

I hope it works out, especially since the world's governments seem unable or unwilling to do anything. The only concerns it brings to mind are:

- that this will give govts an excuse to do nothing other than continue about their own self-interests, in the hope someone else will sort it out
- that we're a step closer to the dystopian picture of corporates being more powerful than world leaders and running the show

Put another way, I have more faith in Gates/his successors/Branson/Musk and (maybe) Bezos than I do those clowns Trump and Johnson.
