My Viewsonic VA1912wb monitor stopped turning on since yesterday though the status LED on the monitor changes its state accordingly with the computer state.

As it has dual inputs (VGA, DVI-D) i tried them both; i also ruled out a graphic card issue as its working with another monitor (on VGA though as DVI port was not present, mine is usually setup with DVI)

I've heard about the CCFL lamps in monitors giving up, but is there a way to know for sure. i can't seem to see anything..

Also the initial screen when the monitor is turned on (No signal found, Powering down now) is not displayed, but as before, the status LED changes

    any help/insight would be appreciated

Try with pointing the screen with a bright flashlight and see if you can see any shade of an image on it.

If you can see a picture, then the CCFL is indeed dead.
