Direct IHS doesnt really work.
You can see this with immersion rigs,they get best performance from a boiler plate in the IHS

Some quality machining there too.

I agree that direct IHS doesn't really work. But as I said before, me and a friend tried de-lidding a Q6600 and direct-die cool it(not to be exchanged with direct-IHS), and we got awesome temps! But sure, there is a whole different heat-output.

Later(when this project is done) I might buy a X58 cpu, OC it, and de-lid it. Just to see how good it actually is.

 

Not so much output as density...Current gen suffer from heat density issues.

I'm hurt 4.05 didn't do well, although the performance is likely well in my tolerance range.

So, these are left-right flow? (excluding the direct IHS.) Will You be testing a center jet next?
-I don't mind if you don't, but I'm loving the hell out of this. It's seriously front-page worthy.

 

Going to bed in 10min, but I tried a jet-plate an hour ago. Well, 3 different ones actually. And only with Rev 1.15, gonna test more tomorrow. I don't see any temp difference between the plates, but I do see a 2C improvement over Rev 1.15. Not as much as I hoped for, tho...

Will be fun when I try it with Rev 6.05...

About Rev 4.05, I have my theories, either it just wasn't better and my results are correct, OR it didn't get enough water out to the fins on the sides, and therefore performance was like Rev 1.35.

Correct, all the results are with left-right flow.

Surface area is part of it but not all,his design make laminar flow conditions impossible and adds significant turbulence to flow. Very desirable characteristics for a waterblock.

Either way, update time!

Let's start with the tests of the water blocks.





So, the copper plates are tested with jet-plates. I tried the different jet-plates with Rev 1.15, when the results were the same for all the plates, I only used Jet 2 for the rest of the water blocks. According to the results I got it doesn't do that much of a difference. And could even be worse(Rev 6.05).

The new block will most likely be with Rev 6.05 fin design.








I had one more panel to mill in the NC, so it was made this friday. I'm really happy how it turned out around the AC-connector and I/O-thingy.








Milled a groove in the column for LED-lightning. Also had to do some hand-filing on the lights to make them fit with the milled radiuses.




Had to mill a new column, because on the existing one the start-button assembly wouldn't fit...








Not everything is machined by a computer... Some manual labor is needed, too!


This was all for this time, next up is probably a new copper plate for the CPU/VRM block.

 

Someone that gets a kick from giving a low rating to good projects.

On topic this is so damn nice.

Lordy, those LEDs are going to be bright.

 

10W each... But I'll run them on the Aquaero PWM modulation. On the other hand, they'll be turned off 99% of the time...

Wow dude, I like how you putting that emphasis with waterblock testing. I also like the whole machining. Just I'm learning CAM by myself for my custom CNC (toy ) and its really tricky. What software are you using? its expensive? what kind of post-processor have? Its really hard to find some inexpensive software to do real 3D and not 2.5D.
