We have talked about other options including adoption but to be honest we are fine as we are. Neither of us has any burning desire to have kids. We have each other and our families, there are plenty of children on both sides with the added benefit that we can choose when to see them and when to have our own time to ourselves.

    Vasectomies are awesome!

Seriously, not only is "no kids, now or ever" the #1 thing on my requirements list for a partner, but both my G/f and I are fixed.

Just seems messed up for me. Having children and passing on your knowledge feels like the closest thing to the 'meaning of life' that we'll ever really know.

Hey, if it makes you happy, go for it. I'm not passing judgment on people who have kids, I'm just saying it's not for everyone, especially me!

Wow, go you! I've got 3 under 5. We're not having anymore and I'm getting a vasectomy as soon as my GP will let me. I love having kids, but I know my limits XD

Hands down the shittiest book I read in 2013.

And then someone thought to turn it into a movie.

    Demotivation successful.

When you're from a large family it's not so urgent, 14 in the next generation carrying the name of Smith, another in the generation beyond that. I can pass on what I know to the next generation without having children of my own. My youngest nephew is also my god son and I plan on not repeating the same errors that my own god father made - I'll actually be there for him as he grows up. He's the son of my best friends so I feel that I ought to do my best. Besides, I don't think that my genes are ones that ought to be passed on, too many things just don't work.

What about just investing in the human species? Do productive work that makes people's lives better, support better education and health care, take care of the environment. Support your local community centre. Do something for charity. Look after your nieces and nephews and after children in general. Contribute to worldly knowledge through hobbies and interests. Inspire by example. Leave a legacy to humanity.

It doesn't have to be big, grandiose stuff. If we all do a few small things every day, the human species will soar.
