    Hey Guys,
I've Been out of the loop here for some time and due to recent events in my life I think it's time to build me a new system but its been quite awhile and I don't know the "good Stuff" anymore so if you guys could give some recommendations to me as far as Mobo, CPU, Video i already have a decent monitor and sound system so i don't need that. i used to be primarily a AMD/Nvidia guy but am willing to convert. Mind you I'm going from a Dell GX270 in an old 5U Rackmount case with a Nvidia 6200, Pentium 4 3.00/HT, and a 640Gb Hitachi.

    Thanks guys.

Budget and primary use are necessary to determine what would suit you best.

Once you post those, we can help. :p

Does the $1000 include the monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse, and the rest of the peripherals, or just the tower?

Sounds like an AMD system would suit you nicely, or wait for the i5 chips.

How about taking a look at Bit's monthly build guide, pretty much sorts the best hardware of the month for you.

If you can stretch your build cost by about $100, you can built an i7 rig worthwhile, with room for upgrading later.

    Processor - Intel i7 920 CPU
    - Still the best processor you can buy for the money.

    Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R
    - Great motherboard at a very nice price...

RAM - 6GB DDR3 1600MHz OCZ Obsidian Series (With free 4GB Flash Drive)
    - OCZ's 'Price / Performance' series of RAM. Should work quite well for you.

Graphics - Sapphire Radeon HD 4870
    - For moderate gaming, a single 4870 should be plenty of power, all the way up to a 24" monitor (I have a 4870 on my 30" and it works fine, should be fine for a 24").

Power Supply - Corsair 650TX 650 Watt PSU
    - Non-modular version, but one of the best 650 watt PSU's out there. If you HAVE to have modular, add another $30~$50.

    Hard Drive - Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB 7200RPM HDD
    - One of the best rated HDDs on the market. Should do well for you.

DVD Drive - Samsung 22x DVD-RW Drive SATA
    - Cheap DVD drive, basically. It will do the job.

    Case - Antec 902 Case
    - VERY good airflow, and great performance. Looks aren't bad either.

Total cost: $1,064.88 without shipping (most items have free shipping though) for a computer that will more than suit your needs.

I DID NOT include an OS, due to the Win 7 RC being free, and a good OS to use until the full version is released in October.
