After my Xaser III, I thought I'd fab something a little less controversial. (You know the blah blah premod you're not a real modder... sigh... Carving up a piece of plexi for the rear panel. Work was done with a jigsaw and a few small files. This piece will eventually wrap around the PSU... my first plexi bend. All I used was a heatgun and and gently bent it over. Here's what the PSU will eventually look like. This little black piece will become a mount for the pipes that hold the HDD mount Here's the concept I plan to use for the base and other misc parts. It's two pieces of opaque 3mm acrylic sandwiching a red bit. The light source is a 3mm 12v bulb. The mostly completed back panel... don't really won't to stuff it up now. And with the final bends in it... just needs trimming to size. And a closeup. Some of the 8mm OD split loom for the ATX wire. A few holes for wires to run through, and the pipe mounts. How the split conduit will run eventually... Right, some grommets for the hoses to run through Making the lefthand side wall... triple layered. Ooh, some feet for the bottom. Motherboard mounted and ready to roll. And with the back panel just sitting in place. The desired effect for the side wall coming through. Time to shorten those ATX wires! I've split them into three runs so that I can use thinner, and therefore more flexible loom.
Here's the red layer for the base with the middle chopped out. Better see how the lights look here. And with the red layer. How the conduit will run. More soldering than I can to remember... Some feet.. randomly placed, I guess noone will know! Testing out the base lighting. And at night.
Just need to relieve the red piece so the motherboard stays don't touch it. Could've shortened the stays, but KISS. Glued down the plexi. Looks cool... just how I'd hoped thank christ. Preparing to glue the back down. Mission successful. And from the rear. Righto, need a gap in the side wall inner layer for the base kights wires to poke through... one of the ideas of this case is minimal visible wiring. And where the wall sits. Mmmmmm... inivisble wiring.
wow! I can see where this is going! and I LOVE IT! Great name! Great Work! Great Ideas! keep on modding, and keep us updated
wow, that looks very promising I really love the red plexi, and very nice job cutting and bending it. Just 1 question, where did you find those rubber things that fit around the holes? I'm looking for them myself greetz, Joungne
Wow. Thats some amazing work you've done. Waiting for the rest in anticipation. What will you do for the top?
wow, looks great. I havnt really seen too many cases that have been started from scratch and as thats how i would like to start my own first mod then ill definatly be watching this progress 5 stars dude
If you're planning to fab your own case, I totally recommend acrylic. All of the pieces I'm using, cut to size, grade A cast acrylic, cost me less than US$20. I want to build something to show the younger guys who're at school, without big funds, that you don't need to spend megabucks to get something interesting/unique.
really original idea ive never seen anyone use red plexi or curved plexi like that and the way your guiding the wires is pretty sexy gj just keep updating frequently!
Really good job m8, very good start!! Hmmm, astonishing job! Really nice work m8! And like you mentioned yourself, finally someone who's being original...I like that . I'm really looking forward how this will come together, but I think it will be a case to be proud off. Keep up the good work m8! It's already looking fabulous! [edit] And do I see a Silverprop box there? Watercooling ?
*druel* looks fantabulous, (sexy, cool, nice, hot, sizzling etc.) i like your idea's and those bends look so nice, keep up the good work
wow great to see some else making use of a premod. [offtopic]has anyone else notice a decline in this fourms activity[/offtopic]
Don't get enough time to look, so I'm not sure. However, we're all still modding I bet Had my first minor disaster today... well more of a realisation than a disaster. The four holes in the red plexi are aligned vertically, but the four outlets on the Aquarius II pump are not... Still no big deal, but goes to show even the best laid plans... Here's a pic with the mb installed and the pump ready for a test fit. I'm just using double sided tape to secure the pump, although I'll have to sand the little ridges on the bottom of the pump housing down to ensure it sticks. Here's a few piccys of the consequences of not offsetting the pump output hole. A minor problem as the spring inside the tubing will prevent it from collapsing. Here's how I'm going to light up the inside of the pump housing... Need to do a little something to reduce the visiblity of the lightbulb when you look directly at it though.
No clamps on the aquarius ii pump/res unit? Heh. I dunno, people give it a really bad rap but it's a) not that bad and b) not meant for great performance, rather quieter operation. Shame about the misaligned holes there, oh well. Needless to say, that's one heck of a step up from a premod (and a xaser iii of all premods!) I mean cutting acryilc and having it come out that nicely takes TALENT. That's one of the best starts I've ever seen, no joke. I'll tell you, custom fabricating a case is hard. I made one for a school project (was more meant to get the point across about modding, good thing, that thing had nasty edges on it) and even with my two hours of total work or so, half of which were aligning the mobo standoff holes and cutting an 80mm for that aquarius ii rad, I realized how much it must suck to be someone that has to design cases for a living... it's so tedious to get everything right!
