Case Mod - Complete Project: Mini Metis Maximus (ITX X99 watercooled)

Yeah I'd kill for a decent rattle clear. They all dry pretty soft and need hundreds of layers. This mod with the marble effect was even worse. I practically used a whole can just for the front and roof panels! Air brushing is different - as B.neg says we have some good stuff over hear, although you need the gear for it.

 

Where'd I get to? Ah yes the fan grille. So, that plastic thing I used in the concept build wasn't really cutting it, so I decided on something a little fancier! Mnpctech Billet Pro-Line 140mm adjustable. Looking at it I should probably have just got someone to CNC the side panel but once I've trimmed the blow hole back and fixed it in place I'm sure it will look great.



The rubber feet serve a purpose on the stock case, but I wanted something to raise it up a little more and add some chrome to the exterior. Thanks again to Mnpctech - mini ITX grooved aluminium case feet! Perfect!

God I had to delve deep to find my own thread. Has it seriously been nearly two months!

Anyway, A few final bits arrived so I'm now finalising the water cooling and doing a test fit. Some mini-ITX pr0n for you





Also a little upgrade from the 'paltry' PM961, which was already a spectacularly awesome bit of kit - Samsung got wind of the project and chucked a little something my way. The label certainly looks better...



And I might have made a waterblock for it Not finished yet. I think I'll 3D print a little shroud or something.

Last delivery today for the final bits for the build. Not entirely sure how I'm going to fit this lot into this case but hey ho! I do like Alphacool's latest chrome rigid tube fittings. They're very yummy.






Also - Aquatomputer Laing DDC top - basically because it's the smallest one around with a flat top. It's literally down to the millimetre in the case so every little helps! Sadly, just not enough room for an attached reservoir either, which is a pain. The plan is to create custom polished metal plates for the pump top and also a 3D-printed shroud too.





But! It means I get to make my own! G1/4in tap here we come...



Finally, replacement screw set for Metis, this time in bare metal. Can't be having the stock black ones!

You know, I was thinking along those same lines! I was thinking about those push-in rubber things you can get for screws. Using a hole punch and vinyl is genius!

We'll see - I may do something similar at the end. The only trouble is to get either the motherboard or GPU out, I need to part dismantle the case so having screw covers might prove tricky

I nearly got the Watercool one actually! This one was cheaper I would have gone with that one if I was leaving the top exposed, though, but I'll be making a chrome plate for it.

 

Thanks! Yeah I said to him we should have them side by side at some point as they're so totally different. He's making me wish I'd laser cut the panels too but we'll see. I can always make another next year. Although I think he's cheating and having the PSU externally - it's all internal for me, although I bet he has way less stress! ha ha!

 

I have some updates! I want to include a reservoir in the roof next to the graphics card but the trouble is fitting your average 50mm/60mm wide res up there will be extremely tight. No option to use a pump res either - just not enough room. So I thought I'd have a go at making one. I've done it before so as long as some extensive leak testing doesn't reveal any issues, it should work fine. I got everything cut to size so all that was left to do was tap the threads and glue it together. However, I have ordered some parts for an old Phobya reservoir I have that has some chrome details that are more in tune with the build so this may all come to nothing. We'll see!







I'm thinking I'll need some kind of anti-cyclone plate so seeing as I ordered a couple of spare end caps, I'll just cut one to size and use that. It will be a low flow system anyway.
