A fan of my Black Narcissus project asked if I could build him a custom computer. The answer was EZ, a resounding YES. So we start Project Soylent Green. The machine will be another German "small bore" water cooled AMD A64 FX-53. I will be using a Black SilverStone case with Green UV lighting/acrylic and lots of chrome. The SilverStone Temjin SST-TJ04 case is a steel mid-tower case with an aluminum front panel. The black finish on the case is very good. It comes from the factory with an interesting window shape. The parts list: WATER COOLING Innovatek Fass-O-Matic Reservoir Innovatek 120mm Radiator Innovatek HPPS 12v pump AlphaCool (Cape) CPU water block Aqua-Computer Full Metal Jacket Aqua-Computer GPU water block HARDWARE: Asus Motherboard AMD A64 FX-53 ATI Radeon X800XT SATA Hard Drives (Raid 0) M-Audio Sound Card Innovatek LCD Modifications will include mounting the Innovatek Reservoir in a green acrylic window on the top of the case. The interror of the case will be painted a satin black and clear coated (as well as removing those ugly purple drive mounting tracks). The front panel's intake fan area will be modified to increase airflow into the case (the case only draws air from the bottom). The 5.25" bay area will get an acrylic cover with stainless bolts (not unlike my other project). The stock power on/HD leds will be changed to 3mm green ones, and some sort of laser etch for the side window (in green UV acrylic) as well as some type of feet for the bottom of the case. The first thing I did was disassemble the case and do a "mock-up" for the radiator and pump locations, looks promising. Parts on order: I have been working on the Aqua-Computer Full Metal Jacket. It needs a few mods to get the Innovatek HPPS 12v pump to fit inside before being sent out to be chrome plated. More soon...........
Hey, man, didn't you know? Soylent Green is made of human beings! ...but seriously, I'm eager to see how it turns out.
Aqua-Computer Full Metal Jacket Mod This project will be using a Innovatek HPPS 12v Pump. It is a modified (by Innovatek) version of the Eheim 1046. The unit is about 3" longer than a stock 1046. So using a Aqua-Computer 1046 Full Metal Jacket was out of the question. But the 1048 model is a good deal larger and can be made to work. The size of the 1048 FMJ is close to what I needed, but still required some cutting to get the pump to fit. It also needed a hole cut in the back for the Molex plug on the pump. It worked out well. The Innovatek Pump JUST FITS. The Full Metal Jacket will be sent out to be chrome plated, pictures soon..
ah finally, there's that monument i had built in my name. now where is my jester and minstrel? peasants, go fetch me my lute and a leg of mutton at once!
The CPU block is Cape Corp. I am not sure what happened but two months ago it was it's own company (with it's own website) now you get send to AlphaCool. It is said to be a very good block (and looks great). That AQ Full Metal Jacket was hard work.. About three hours to make it happen. The Jacket is back from the chrome guy, but the owner picked it up. I am waiting for him to upload pictures of it.... READ THIS, I NEED PICTURES DUDE.....
So now i am following you in 2 threads.. Nice work on the FMJ MOD. you have actually inspired me to get off my arse and do a mod.. <grumbles>
Thanks. I think this will be a cool machine when it's done. I should be working on the top green UV acrylic window in which the Innovatek reservoir will be mounted. until then.
The Chrome Update The Aqua-Computer Full Metal Jacket was chrome plated by a local shop, cost was about $60US. More than the price of the FMJ it self, but well worth the money in my book. The pictures.... I love Chrome........................
Acrylic I received my supply of acrylic for the project today, as well as the mirror inserts. The color of the acrylic is a very good match of the Innovatek 8mm h20 tubing the project will be using. This will be the shape of the top window that will house the Innovatek reservoir. I was also able to get a hold of Dan at SNT Systems and add the Aqua-Computer Aquagra ATIx800 water block to my shipment of long back-ordered AQ gear. Should get some work done on that window/res. mount tomorrow..
really nice project! 1 question... where did you get that acrylic? whats that stuff cost? i really havent a clue where to look. thx in advance
I get all my acrylic from http://www.cuttingedgecasemods.com/ Not only do they stock all the flavors (colors) of acrylic, they can cut you something special if need be. Talk to Chris, he is a good guy..
