i need some help please but i dony know exactly what could be wrong, well here it is: whenever i go to play a game, like cs, tony hawks, spiderman any game like that ma computer will run fine for maybe 10 minutes and then it will either just close the game down and go to the desktop ot restart my computer computer spec : Tbird 850 @ 1gig, 256md pc133 sdram, matrox milenium G450 32mb gfx card 300W psu any help would be greatly apreciated thnx all
well the 300 should handle the rig youve got there, unlikely that it wouldnt. what drives are in it? might be a software error somewhere? maybe gfx drivers seeing as its ALL games with same problem?
well i just loaded the latest G450 drivers after what you just said, but still i get the same problem
well i think that is what has caused the prob i formatted my hdd a while ago and everything worked fine, but ever since its been formatted i have been getting these problems
er, that sounds like a CLASSIC case of overheating !! after ten mins the GPU and CPU heat up, and when they get too hot they can't handle what's being thrown at them anymore and the prog running crashes. Sounds more like a GPU overheat to me....what gfx card is in there ?
ok, just re read your post...g450 could be not getting enough air, they do only have passive cooling. Don't do somthing silly though like put a blorb on there, you'll prolly make it worse if you can, open yer case up, and use a probe (read 'finger') to check the gpu Heatsink and CPU heatsink temps at the points where it crashes...if its bloody hot (be careful there) you may have found the problem...
I agree with Phil on the overheating front... does the problem still persist if you take the case side off? Cheers, r.
Yep I think phil's hit it on the head there.. i've had exactly the same thing with my G400 and with my old Voodoo card edit: uh oh, only one away from post 666....
The crystal orbs are nice... OCS will probably be selling them. The easiest thing would be to buy a slot cooler though... sits in the slot next to your graphics card (assuming it's free) and churns hot air out the back of your case. Most overclocking stores sell them r.
Before you go buying cooling for your GFX card, check the temps with you finger...make sure it is the gpu and not the main cpu...
Also if it is your grfx card get a fan off an old heatsink if you have one lying about and just try n wedge it on to see if it helps. If it does make a difference then go out and buy a proper solution to the problem
ask yer dad if you can fiddle with his PC first man what bugs me is that its only just started having this prob, the prob hasnt been there from the start??!!
If it's any help, I have recently had a G400 and a G450 die. Both are well over 6 months old. First they started to freeze and then take ages to initialise and finaly kaput! Personally, rather than mess with cooling, I would change to a GF MX based card which are now very cheap.
Could be dust build up in fans... makes em less efficient, etc... It is strange I know, but running with the case side off should prove if it's heat or not, and if it is it's easy to solve r.
what are you doing to them man?? my G400's been running FINE at 124mhz system bus for the last year! me 2..
