Currently watching 15x04. I'm glad Clarkson mentioned that blind-people's car- I have some friends at Virginia Tech working on that.
What an amazing episode Spoiler The best bit was when they woke up to find the Grand Designs Citroen on its side - that then had to be lifted by the Crane. All in all one of the best episodes of the new series.
I actually chuckled through most of it until the fire (again), it just got less amusing after that point imo. Still was the best episode so far though.
As a general rule every new season sees the number of notable episodes decreasing. Hopefully this season will have something comparable to the Vietnam trip (on the bikes).
I think most of the epic trips have been done tbh, (vietnam, africa, USA etc..) id like to see them take on something like the mongol rally personally, but i dont think you could fit it into a single show. Australia or Russia could provide some much needed epicness.
Motorhomes - Scripted much? Yes. Funny as hell? Absolutely! Spoiler As soon as you saw the Grand Design parked up on cliff top, you knew what was going to happen... But it was still funny when it did happen. Geronimo! Much better episode. SIAPC was good as well, but Andy reeeeallllly needs get rid of the soup strainer. Oh - and I don't car if the Porker was faster round the track than the Audi. I'd like an R8 Vert please. Oh and some safety goggles.
i dont know how clarkson was allowed to drive that on the road, maybe it was more secure than it seemed on camera. really good episode, this series is back to the way tg should be. Spoiler and that last bit, you saw it coming i thought it would be that one had left the handbreak off, but that what they did was alot better
Good episode - liked the conclusion on the topless sports cars, liked the camping thing (except for the fire... predictable much) but the one lesson learned is DON'T GO ON FACEBOOK two hours prior to the show, because they upload preview stuff (this week, pictures of the motorhomes, and descriptions of the SIARPC and twin test) that completely spoil the surprise... This always confuses me, too - the amphibious cars were allowed on the road twice, the Hammerhead-i Eagle Thrust several times, that decapitated Renault Espace, the cut'n'shut limos - all on the road, and all patently a total menace. How comes? I mean, if that Citroën had toppled over on the motorway, there would've been hurt feelings at the very least.
I think that it highlights a problem with the getting a car on the road - if it's already registered (all of the vehicles used where), if it passes an MOT, it's road legal, regardless of how much you've dicked about with it. All of those cars would have been classed as 'rebodied' (Well, apart from the Captain's. His was just a silver roof box), which wouldn't need a stringent VOSA check like an IVA or SVA. That said, I bet that they thought long and hard about the Grand Design though. I'm guessing one of the reasons it was so slow was down to them having to add a hell of a lot of ballast to it to keep the CG low enough to allow it to be driven on the roads. It certainly groaned enough when Jezza let the hydrogas suspension down to clear the forecourt canopy.
I suspect that the Top Gear convoy (3 petrolhead prats, camera cars, etc) also includes a police escort.
i get what your saying but it could be classified as an unsafe load if the police saw them. i mean if you or i did that, thats what theyd say. it just looked really dangerous when i was watching it with people driving past on the other side of the road with it swaying, maybe theyve done something to make sure it doesnt tip and maybe they get special permission, it just looked mad. that bit too where clarkson drove over the bridge was scarey lol i dont think i believe it toppled in the wind either, but its all in the name of fun when the do stuff like that
Undoubtedly. I don't think they're anywhere near irresponsible enough to field a car which is genuinely dangerous. Not only is it morally dubious, but would likely destroy what freedoms the TG team have left to create silly things like that. Loved the cabrio test, but I would've liked moar Audi engine noise, that thing is absolutely wonderous.
I reckon a Hilux would have been perfect for the motorhome - whack a cover on the trailer, job done. Don't know how Clarkson would have explained to the insurance company the modifications to his Citroen though...
I thought last night's motorhomes piece made a really good episode, best of the series so far I'd say. I'm truly amazed Richard managed to fit so many wall panels in the Land Rover And the Grand Design Citroen was great
If it were up to me, I'd take one of those North Pole indestructible Hiluxes, extend the bed, and cover it like Brooxy said, and setup an amazing temperature-controlled and insulated room there, featuring a full kitchen and bed/couch with LED (for low power consumption) TV. All of this, of course, would be bound to the walls so that they don't move around even during the jerkiest of highway movements and rough roads. Ahh, so cozy. The entrance to the little home would be a door at the very back, and there would be a 4-5ft hallway where a tiny bathroom would be fitted near the end of the whole thing itself.
I saw an expedition-prepped Landy Defender on PH a while ago - had 3 seats up front, bunk, kitchen, loads of storage and allsorts in the back, then an extendible awning that came out for a bit more room. There are also roofboxed Landies a bit like Captain Slow's - you sleep on the roof, and a massive tent comes down the back to form a lounge/kitchen.
