My new monitor only supports HDMI. I want to connect my HPE server which only supports VGA to the monitor. I have a VGA to VGA cable. I also order a cheap VGA to HDMI cable on eBay which didn't work. What do I need to connect the two and how cheaply can I do it for? I would be happy to buy something used.

That is hdmi to vga, not the other way round.

However if there is any way at all to fit a GPU in the server, I'd just buy something like a used Geforce 730 or similar (they can be found on the bay of flea tor basically the same price as the adapter I linked to).

Can you not just remote desktop to server or telnet?
