if i had a shitload of cash just lying around i'd love to build up something similar (titanium frame+hub gears+~100mm fork) for dicking around in town and stuff like that

Hamish - If you check bike forums and Ebay often you can pick up some pretty good deals on secound hand Ti frames, you do have to be willing to look often and wait though. Something relatively modern from a reputable brand will start at around £500+ (used), but you can pick up older frames a lot cheaper, £200-£300 on a 90's frame with older fittings like V-brake or canti mounts etc. I really like how it rides, stiff and responsive but at the same time has a springy feel over rough surfaces\heavier hits, it takes the edge off of bumps without removing the feel for the suface your on.

Format - I've hung them like in the picture, but I've alternated each bike so the first is hung by the front wheel second by back wheel and so on. That way you can get the bikes close together but still get them out, I spaced the hooks out half of a handle bar width plus a bit extra to clear the saddles (30cm - 40cm per hook).

 

Any of you guys gone on bike tours/long weekend/week long trips with nothing but you, the bike and a tent kinda thing?

 

Thanks dude. Ideally I'm looking for something that sits the bike more flush to the wall. If I had higher ceilings I'd get a pulley but that's a bit pointless in the current place.

 

yeah probably even harder for me as im 6'4" and need a larger frame and most people seem to ride medium/16" size stuff
on-one 456 ti is relatively cheap at 'only' £800 new tho

its a future project really, i already have a hardtail, money would be better spent on a full sus trail bike i think

 

And what are people's opinions on 2nd hand bikes?
pinkbike.com has reopened up the possibility of getting a half decent bike, regardless of whether I choose road or mountain.

 

nothing wrong with second hand, with the price of stuff nowadays, I think that's what I'd be doing.

Just make sure to ask the right questions, and if its not right when you see it, walk away.

My mate just got a bike off pinbike, swapped his 125cc dirt bike for a Specialised SX Trail. As soon as he got it back, I had a look. It didn't have the cranks that were advertised, the front wheel bearings were worn and the axle is worn. The tyres were all cracked and should have been replaced, the rear deraileur was bent causing dodgy gear shifting, and the inner crank ring bolts were all bashed up meaning a second ring can't be fitted to make uphills easier.
He's had it about a month and is now wanting to sell it as its not really what he needed.
He was impatient though, and just wanted the first thing he saw.

 

Oh yeah, if I were to buy, I would make sure I knew exactly what I was getting.

 

I've been running tubeless on my Remedy since getting it in December. I've not had any punctures or issues with it. You do have to watch the tyre pressure pre ride though as it can leak over time. It's also possible to burb air when pulling cutties or cornering hard with low pressures so you've just got remember to keep an eye on them.

The only problem with it is fitting tyres, it can be a bugger to get them to inflate which is why a lot of people use CO₂ to inflate them when fitting the tyre. Once the tyre is in the bead they are fine.

2 hour trip: 0,5 hours of riding, 1,5 hours of cutting wood. Next step will be 0,5 hours of riding and 3 hours of digging

20mile ride earlier
Went with a friend who has a cube aim, and he had a quick go on mine, and he started to understand why I was so much slower than him, said the frame was too small for me, and just generally the bike was a bit rubbish
Really enjoyed the off road bits, and so am considering getting a new mountain bike and maybe putting road tyres on it for commuting over the summer.
All you offroady type guys, any recommendations? Looked at the specialized rockhopper/hardrock, anyone had any experience? Am looking at the 2nd hand market, since I actually buy everything 2nd hand nowadays, would be looking for 500 max, ideally <400.

 

On a similar note, I'm looking at second hand fox forks for <£300
Preferably coil and 15QR but 20mm is fine too, rather stay away from 9mm dropout

on ebay/pinkbike I'm looking at a couple of Fox 32 140mm Vanilla R 15QR, a couple of 07 Talas 36's
Also a 36 Vanilla R ( this one doesn't list the travel but is probably 160(?) which is a bit long, 140 is as high as I want to go i think, its also more than £300 )


Are there any issues I should be aware of with these forks, anything I should be asking about specifically etc?

Woop de doop, finally got the shovel and a couple of friends and it's time to start renovating a dirt that has stood abandoned for a good couple of years.

Haven't been jumping for a couple of years and the friends are really just getting into this stuff, so it's definitely time to start small (and to get a helmet... maybe.. some day)

Am looking at a couple of Specialized Hardrocks, or a Giant XTC, any recommendations?

 

I knackered my back up when we went last weekend, aching whenever I bend it. Was fine untill we did the rollers bit a second time, and something went.

My mate has told me that someone is organising a Riders Guild event for next month on the DH tracks. If my back is better, I'll probably be heading over for a bit of fun.

I started to cycle commute to work on a Ridgeback momentum hybrid in february after using an old bike for 6 months. For the 3 weeks I used it I really enjoyed it until the handlebar stem suddenly jerked loose coming down a small hill out of work causing me to lose all control of the front wheel making it turn sideways and flip me over the handlebars D:

Been off work and off bike since with a knee injury which is slowly getting better, aside from a few scratches and wrecked bar ends the bike was relatively unharmed fortunately! It's strange but through this whole recovery period the thing I have missed most is riding my bike, especially with all the beautiful weather we have been having
