Windows installsheild

    i reformatted and now i cant install alot of programs my freind says my installshield is broken can someone help me

    Do you get an error message when trying to install programs? Provide us with more information and we will be able to help you.

    Did it really say "installshield is broken"? Be a bit more specific. If you're not running windows xp, you probably need to reinstall the basis of installshield, you can find it off the net.

    no but when i hit install on battle field 2 or firefox it extracts and then closes and my freind says that it is broken

    Go into your services by typing "services.msc" into the run dialog box. Once inside the services window, go down to "Windows Installer", right click and select properties. In the startup type drop-down menu, select "Automatic" and close the dialog box. Now, highlight "Windows Installer" and and in the upper left hand corner of the window, click start this service. Try installing your stuff again, and tell me if it works.

    Sorry to flame, but you need to be more specific in your posts, nobody can help you if you're giving short answers like "didn't work".

    What operating system for one, and what exactly happens when using installsheild?

    waht padre said didnt work i am using windows xp when i hit install on any program it just closes and doesnt install

    Are you 100 percent sure it's InstallShield and not Windows Installer?

    i have no idea which it is that is why i came here windows installer wasnt running but i ran it and had no luck

    So if you installed Firefox unsuccessfully, we'll soon find out which it is using. I'll be back with the verdict.
    Yep, it's definitely not InstallShield. It's actually a problem with Windows Installer. Once again, I will ask you to check out what I wrote in my previous post about the Services, because that usually resolves the problem about 99 percent of the time.

    yes i checked taht set it to automatic started the service and it does not work and when i restart my computer i must start the service manually

    Have you tried reinstalling Windows Installer? Get it from Microsoft

    edit: Ignore me, I've just noticed that was for Win 95/98/me, and you are on XP which isn't upgradeable. Doh :duh:
