Wasn't intending to critisize. Just mentioning it reminded me of it. And I do love the Reserator. :D

    Radiator Design Update

Well, I thought it would be a simple exercise to add some details to the radiator... ack! Not. Turns out I still have a few things to learn about part constraining when creating assemblies in my solid modeller software. :duh:

Anyway, here's my attempt at getting the art deco look I mentioned earlier. Not sure about the proportionts yet, so any input is most welcome.

Happy 4th of July all my American fellow modders. And to all my fellow British citizens -- don't worry, it wasn't worth keeping a hold on this country anyway. :D

The Zalman website claims the Reserator has a "dissipation area" of 1.274 square meters, and the Thermaltake Rocket claims 1.256 m^2. My current design has an approximate surface area of 0.735 square meters, so it may be a little on the low side, but I'll probably add some more fins to it.

Anyway, my Athlon 64 3200 runs very cool, so it may not be an issue. A little bit of testing in the future will certainly answer it for us.

    Cheers.

What you may want to do is actualy switch to 1/2 copper pipe insted of 1inch pipe and run more of it around. If you realy design it well you can have the rite bends in the copper pipe to emulate that design you have done and then solder fins in it to add to that. This way you got a radiator/res/a work of art.

I sugest you keep the copper look. You can do that by sanding the copper after soldering and then either apply clear coating or polyurathene by brush.

    I wish you luck.

Interesting idea, but I've already purchased all of the 1-inch diameter pipe.

Yep, that's definitely what I'm working towards.

Thanks! I'm probably going to need a lot of it. :)

Well, in the words of Yoda, "Uncertain, the future is."

I'm still toying around with some ideas. I should have some updated designs in the next couple-o-days.

    Cheers.

yes, but yoda also said "full of crap you are" (or do i say that... hmm either one works)

if your using dual tubes WITHIN the other tubes, so there is a smaller tube that takes the liquid to the top of the towers, and then the actual towers are the way back, that would work quite nicely!

Huh, I must have missed that episode. On the other hand, one would expect a coment like that from a Guildford boy. :D

    I like the tube-within-tube idea.

    Cheers.

    Christmas in July

So the friendly UPS man brought a gift from McMaster today:

    Let's see, we got:

    4 outlet instant fitting manifold

    Brass instant fitting straight adapters

    Nickel plated brass plugs

    Two pipe adapters

    Brass plugs

And, the grand prize -- a 1/4-inch NPTF pipe tap. Huzzah.

Everything is for the radiator, except the two nickel plated plugs. More on those later.

    Ciao.

Wow, good work, but I hope this is just a coinsidence, considering I started the same type project about 5 months ago. Although mines way more extreme than yours, your work is still good. I'll post my stuff once I completly finished, otherwise check my soilwork case work log at creativemods, hasn't been updated forever since I was banned. w00t!

Home made waterblocks and radiator? Hah, neither one of us was the first to come up with that idea. Now, if your radiator looks anything like mine, that would be a neat coincidence.

Cool. Looking forward to seeing it.

    Cheers.

    Update July 8

Construction of the GPU block has begun.

Template for punching some holes in the copper:

    Holes nicely punched:

    A little bit of drilling:

And some tapping. (ugh, what a pain):

1/8-inch end mill is on order, so hopefully I can start cutting the channels soon.

    Ciao.
