I dunno if this should be here but I couldnt find an appropriate place.

Basically I want to buy a contract phone, there are some good offers at the mo and the free phone is also tempting :D

Im on Orange "Pay as you go" but a contract phone would suit me more, most people have recomended O2 and I like the look of there contracts. Somone at wrk showed me this place: www.e2save.com the "3" offers look really cheap, it works out at a few quid a month for a large chunk of the contract and you get a choice of free phones, but Ive been looking at a few other sites and some of the other networks are offering really cheap rates too (obviously to get you on there with the hope youl stay with them).

Anyways I just cant be bothered to traul through all the offers so il trust you guys to advise me :D

    Contract:

    Reliable network

    Preferably 12 months

£30 a month max (after the first few cheap months end)

    around 100 Texts or more

not to sure about minutes but over 100 would make sense.

    Phone

User friendly and good build quality

Blue tooth, wifi, infa red would be good

Dont care about cameras as I have a Digital Camera (and camera phones suck)

    Large screen

Mp3 and video playback (like the idea of MP3 player and phone in one)

Email ? Probably not to send but would be handy to recieve.

Has to take a memory card (mmc, sd)

Be able to view Excel and Word files would be a bonus

    Phones I like so far

Nokia N91, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6630, XDA IIs, Samsung D50 (brother has it tho, and no memory card slot)

A PDA type phone would be useful in my job, but I wouldnt want to pay 150+ extra if possible.

Any help would be great :hip:

phones that have WiFi are generally PDAs that have phone functionality.

I don't like awnsering calls on an iPaq, you might as well go buy an ngage.

I've an MPx220 on vodaphone, i have 200 xnet minuites, which on their 3 mins for an hour off peak (18 month contracts only?) i get 4,000mins a month if i used em all off peak, for £20 a month, with a free MPx220, and 240texts a month. Not bad.

Phone you cna program in .net, oooh, remote debugging over bluetooth/gprs anyone?

its got miniSD, and theres this new miniSD 802.11b card about to hit, but it will require a re-master of windows mobile to run i'm assuming (not for the faint hearted).

in short, nice phone, firmware issues not had any serious (series 60 i had, had more).

only thing against nokia, their symbian syndicate.

Programming for my s60 based phones was a horrific experiance.

Programming for a windows mobile based phone is incredibly easy, i can't describe how great .net is for this stuff. if you want to program for your smart phone, windows mobile is really good.

(its hard for me to say that, i loved my Psion Epoc OS).

"3" are cheap for a reason. My g/f has one and the service is terrible.

Have a look at Orange C550 or an M500. You can get them free on contract and they do almost all of the things you want. The only thing they don't have is wifi (although I think it is possible to get it on an M500 but I'm not sure)

    They're very nice phones! :D

3 is terrible... family has used them before and i insist they never call me using that phone again!!

personally, i'm an Orange man, having used 3, vodaphone and singlepoint before
but never had the pleasure (displeasure of using o2 or t-mob)

I would avoid the XDAIIs until there's a ROM upgrade for it, mine needs resetting 2-3 times a day, if I'm lucky and I'm not the only one with this problem.

The original XDAII with a SD Wifi card is a more stable option.

Orange M1000. It's the same phone I believe.

The company that makes these phones is called HTC. They make phones for Orange, O2, T-Mobile in the UK and they make them for loads of other companies world wide.

Most of the phones are the same for eaach network but are re-badged, some of them are exclusive to a certain network, you can only get an SDA on T-Mobile, but most of there phones are very similar and they all run the same software.
