Looks sweet, i prefer it without the fogging, as you say less is more it looks better in smaller quantities those skulls look sweet man, keep it up
Clear Coat With the end of the long holiday weekend drawing near, I wanted to get some clear coat on the case skins to protect the paint. This was the first time I used the PPG speed clear..It's nice stuff. Some random pictures: I shot a heavy coat to allow myself to wet sand without worry of "messing up" the graphics layer which is H20 based paint. So what remains is two more coats of clear with wet sanding in between. Then rubbing (glaze) compound and wax. I will post a few more pictures when the skins are finished and the case is put back together.. until then::
The black and neon green go well together. I like the effect along the edges of the window. Nice, very nice!
Fine work. Although I had in my mind that there would be way more skulss than what you have. Probably because of the images of the stncils being tested and skulls being everywhere. Don't know why but I had envisioned a mound of skulls.
Thanks guys. I had originally planned on lots-o-skulls, but decided to tone it down a little. It this point the finish is OK. It needs more wet sanding and another coat of clear..then wet sand again..then rub-out with glazing compound and finally, wax. So, lots of work to go...
Great work (of course) Did you get that bit about slapping a skull on the aquadrive I mentioned a bit back? I think it would fit right in, especially as it's now black (btw, are those a fairly quick paint job if you're looking for a non-glossy look?)
Yes, but the aquaDrive micro will hang-off the bottom of a 250GB hard drive. It will not be seen..Back in Black (ac/dc).. Yes, the inspection plate is not bolted down.. I have only shot two brands of paint with my airbrush: House of Kolor AutoAir Both of which are two stage (pigment--clearcoat)apps.. Without the clear coat the paint no durability..The clear coat is the outer-shell... A glossy case picture: You can buy a can of Krylon (which is pigment+clearcoat) and be done...BUT, it's not quite the same. So, to answer your question: "fairly quick" means "fairly good"...
Oh how I'd love three or four of those for FrozenFire...but alas my hard drives don't run hot enough to justify that, especially with my current level o' cash. But great paint work anyways
The aquadrive micro is a nice little HD cooler. I personally prefer the look of the standard aquadrive, but if someone needs to mount there drives in an 3.5" bay they are the way to go.. I also noticed this projects rating has dropped to 4-stars. After the time I put into this paint job I have to say it is disappointing..I will have to try harder..
I just "fived-it" for you, as it definately is five-star matierial. I didn't realize people acutally voted... ever. You wouldn't mind telling me how thick the Micro is, would ya? I've gotta see if there's a chance to put them between drives in the Lian Li drive rack without absolute modding mayhem (or removing hard drives... but chances are I'll be down to three when all is said and done so I'd have enough room then!)
wo0t, looks like my 5 star upped it back to 5 star status! This is amazing. So another question about airbrushing, as I just bought one today, I'm sure the one you use is a nice unit, and prolly MUCH better (especially since mine can run on CO2...and was only $20), but I suppose my question is, does the quality of the tool make all the differnce in this as well, or is is more quality of the paint used. I doubt I'll ever be doing things like this with it, as anything detailed like this, but I figured for $20 it was worth it to be able to get a good paint job. Any Suggestions on paint, place to read how to do things, any advice in general would be nice!
