So I've recently Aquacomputer'd my P4 machine. It's an LGA775 P42.8e overclocked to 3.5GHz. Mobo is an ASUS P5AD2 Premium, latest BIOS. I've installed a Cuplex XT on the CPU and a Twinplex on the NB. Aquastream 3.0 pump, Aquatube res and EVO160 rad. Arctic Silver used on the water blocks. pump>CPU>NB>rad>pump The case is a praetorian, so I've positioned the EVO160 at the lower front, air is sucked in over the rad by two Vantec Stealth 80mm fans. The CPU temp reported by AsusProbe is 44C idle and up to 60C load. The mobo temp is reported as 38C idle and 41C load. Am I being paranoid or are these temps a little high? It has been warm in Essex recently, last few days have been in the high 20C range. Please share your WC prescott temps.
Mobo's have a tendency to report high, same with software though. Those temps (one or none) could simply be in line with (or slightly higher than) a dual 80mm rad and two very low CFM fans cooling it.
One could argue that if they all report equaly high, then a comparitive study is possible,. But I won't.
sounds a bit warm, but it IS a prescott, and a very thick rad with low-flow fans won't give superb temps. But considering the overclock, it's understandable. I'd just doublecheck you don't have too much thermal compound and that there is enough pressure on the block.
Can't measure water temp ATM, any recommendations on a temp sensor, while I save up for the Aquaero? The water tubes are noticibly warm (not what I would call HOT) though, as is the CPU.
I agree with fibbs. IMO your temps are around what i would expect with your CPU, overclock, choice of rad and fans.
your fine i got a 3ghz presHOT oced to 3.6ghz and its @47C idle and 60C load edit and the rooms temp is like 30C
You should have your system set up like this... pump>radiator>cpu>northbridge>pump That way, your pump puts out its heat before the radiator, and the radiator has a chance to remove the heat before the water goes to the cpu.
Wont make ANNNNNY difference except in a REALLLY reallly low flow system. The dT before and after your average waterblock is 0.5c for a 50-100w load. A pump will dump maximuim of 15w in the water.. you wont be able to measure the increase. Placement of blocks is only important when using TECs where the dT is much higher.
Good feedback, thanks guys. I took the box to a LAN party yesterday, which was fully air-condotioned, which not suprisingly made a HUGE difference (45C load). Temp sensor is on order, which should make things a bit clearer.
Well, here's how my parts are configured inside my case... This is cooling a P4 3.0E OC'd @ 3.2Ghz and an ATI Radeon 9800Pro. Are you saying that my tiny little DangerDen CSP-MAG pump is making my CPU temps higher? Idle: 47C Load: 58C
