Project: aero.x aka: inspiration culmination ----------------------- LATEST UPDATE SNAPSHOT go to last page to keep up ----------------------- For a while now I have been planning a new mod and recently got it started. I named this project aero.x as it will yet again be a air cooled machine. I started in photoshop making a quick logo as I always do. I like having a symbol for the project. Logo: The logo will be placed in multiple areas as appliques. The basis of this mod is taking a shuttle system and placing it into a mid tower case. I chose the Coolermaster ATC-110B. I wanted the motherboard to be covered and to have the hard drive below it. The shuttles size makes this very easy. Here are the plans for the inside to understand where I am going. Motherboard cover: Full inside view: The top of the inside will have a black acrylic cover with a second piece below it that is clear with blue leds lighting it. The first thing I did on the project was take the original case and cut out the areas I did not want. I cut out the hard drive bay area as I would not be using it. I only did the one side thus far. Ran out of cutting discs. Then I bought some acrylic and metal from some local shops. While there I got this huge piece of perforated aluminum. I used black acrylic for what would be the motherboard cover. I then heated and bent it into the shape I wanted Next I drilled two holes for vents Holding it up to what will be behind it Next I need to cut out more vent areas and make the spot for the video card as it will protrude through it. CONTINUED BELOW:
With the metal, I cut out new areas for the back and the inside. The inside will be the base for the components below the cover. Test Fitting the shuttle and pieces: Next on my list is getting the inside mounted and cleaned up. Then I can get the chasis painted black. The inside will all be black with some aluminum areas and blue lighting. Lots and lots more to do but it has begun.
lol sorry had to post this, one more posty and 10,000 posts for u, woa _________________________________________________________ closed
I have no idea why anyone would want to make their computers larger than they are. However if you want to, this is right way to do it!
just curious as too your plexi bending process, so many ppl do it so many different ways. and nice concept.
Thanks. As far as the reason for making it bigger, it all stemmed from my not liking the heat in the shuttle. I wanted more airflow. However, I did not want to invest in a new system. Thanks. To bend my plexi I use the easiest way. I clamp the acrylic to a flat surface ending where I want the bend. Then I clamp on another piece of wood onto the area that I will be bending. Then I just grab a heat gun and go back and forth over the area where the bend should be. After a small while I put pressure on the piece of wood that is clamped to the edge. When its in the spot I want I turn off the heatgun and hold it in the position until its hard again. I will take pictures the next time I do it. (Which will be one more time for this mod) Also, in case anyone is wondering there is plans for the front, top, and reverse side. I just posted the plans for the inside for now as that is where I am starting. But this will be a head to toe mod.
Got the same fan with the rim-mounted engine...I find it to have some serious vibration issues so it might be an idea to get some dampening material between it and the case. Lookin sweet.
DickH> I am using the ICE unit. The other fan is just for a bit more flow. I am installing two 60mm fans on the side bringing air in to the covered area. Then this fan will be taking some out. More pics and updates coming today! banarne> Thanks for the headsup. Will probably install some rubber grommits.
with my sn95g5, I found that the slim zalman fan turned down (maybe 7v) combined with some heatsinks on the MOFSETs is more then enough to cool the front of the motherboard. If you want, I know where to get you some almost completely silent 60mm fans. Are you going to keep that chipset heatsink, or will you change it for one of the passive zalman fans?
