1989 Mazda MX-6 aka "The Mazda"

It's got a 2.2L 4 banger that puts out 110 horses and 140 ftlbs of torque. Automatic transmission, Sony cassette player. Needs a new exhaust and oil tank gasket. 131,000 miles. It sounds like a lawnmower but it's got a lot of torque.

I have no idea why the hood (american for bonnet) is so faded. The sides aren't faded at all, not even the trunk. The trunk and the sides should be faded too, but they're not. There's also some weird discolored patches on the hood, including this big one that looks like a few squares inside of eachother.

Edit - thinking about it, probably snow. The car spent 5 years sitting in a driveway being driven under 1,000 miles a year. I don't think anyone ever shoveled snow off it. The snow probably caused the heavily faded not-quite rusting paint.

cars from the eraly 90's and late 80's are notorious for bad paint. It was a time period when allot of manufacturers used the same paint and it wasent very good. Allot of manufacturers used the paint including mazda, dodge, honda, chevy, chrysler and the list can go on.

Well, it's a sleeper. The only problem is that it doesn't wake up.

    Part 1...

    Just a 'few' piccies :naughty:

    Got the car Sept '04, Vaux Corsa GSi 16v, 1.6i, 106bhp, 110lb/ft...

Done a few things to it, now pushing 117bhb, 111lb/ft torque, but torque is down as these engines arent too great with it...

Also have a few plans for it now, set of throttle-bodies, management, full top & bottom rebuild, aiming for 180-200bhp & 140-160lb/ft... but that wont be complete till well into next year as I'm doing all the work myself!

Done a few 1/4 miles, before I stripped it & did work on the engine, the best I mustered was a 16.4, but now I reckon I should be in high to mid 15's but dont want to run it just yet as I've got a sticky valve which needs attention :(

also... top speed is confirmed +128.6mph... as thats what I got snatched by with a GPS speed tracker thingy...

    Car when I bought it…
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG]

    Then fitted a new Exhaust
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG]

    I then got bored…
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Then lowered it…

And it's still a corsa :( They're just too "chavvy" for my liking.

yes but this one is being slowly converted into a track car, and will eventually no longer be road-legal...

until I get something good enough to tow the corsa on a trailer, the corsa has to remain a daily driver!

plus as for the stereo... or lack of it (as it has since been removed & the wiring all ripped out for it) if I want music I'll either wind the window down or sing!

Does it still turn round corners.

And tbh 180-200bhp in a Corsa is not a good idea, infact start working out your arms, cos the torque steer will kill you.

And 128.6mph, fast for a corsa, but how quick does it brake, I would be terified in that.

yes it still corners, doesnt scrub at all!

the thing with TB's though, with the power being progressive, it will be more useable unlike a turbo of equivalent power, so shouldnt be too much of an issue... there is a 2ltr corsa in Scotland on TB's pushing over 250bhp, and is still very driveable & doesnt suffer from traction issues at all, just the fact its front-heavy doesnt help its cornering abilities... most track-prepped corsa's & nova's are pushing around 180-200bhp from the 1.6 16v engines, and there proven to handle very well when setup correctly!

Braking at the moment, the car is using ATE calipers & discs from an Astra GTE setup, which is more than enough for the corsa... if they can stop a 150bhp astra from 140mph, I'm sure they can stop a corsa from less a speed & also less weight... Eventually they will be replaced with either Hi-Spec 286mm setup with 6-pot calipers, or 276mm wilwoods...

also... torque steer can be eliminated by fitting equal-length drive shafts & LSD, as its the weight difference between the shafts which casues this, not just a shoddy dif ;)

If i can get the car then it's a Bluish/Green Hyundai Elantra Wagon if not then it's either my bus pass or my Peugout (no clue on the spelling) Bike.

Ya i'm poor so sue me.

Problem is....all this money wasted on a corsa when you could have bought something like a Caterham clone and had some proper fun on the track!
