today i got my present from my friends for my birthday wich was an intel pentiun 4 2.4 GHz to replace my intel celeron 2.6GHz but EACH AND EVERY TIME i try to install windows i get that blue error screen some times i get to go further than others but i never mannage to fully install windows i suspect its the CPU coz this NEVER happened to me. if any 1 knows any solution (if there is ) to my problem plz help coz im anctios to use it (with windos running) thank you in advance
A bit of grammar might help here and there, but I'd try clearing your CMOS. Either with the jumper, taking out the battery, or you could try "load fail-safe defaults" in the BIOS.
does your bios support that cpu properly? different cores and stuff for the intel cpu's might be causing problems if its an older bios.
Not sure about the power requirements of a P4 2.4GHz when compared to a Celeron 2.6, but it's worth checking out to see if it's stressing your PSU. Check the voltages with a multimeter if you can.
i have a thermaltake butterfly 480W which i spent lm40 on and i think it is good. what ill do is flash the bios to an earlyer bios and hope that works
What is your hardware configuration? Posting it here can help us work out if there are any incompatibilities etc.
Try installing with the bare minimum in your computer i.e. take out everything apart from your graphics, hdd and cd rom drive. Does it install with your Celeron? There's no reason why you shouldn't install Windows with the Celeron installed then swap to the p4 after installation.
my specs r asus p4p800s maxtor 80GB 7200RPM hdd thermaltake butterfly 2.4ghz cpu (givin problems) 512mb ram nvedia fx 5200 graphics card and with the celeron it works
Do you have all the FSB/voltage/multiplier settings set to Auto? If you accidentally set incorrect values, or used the ones for the Celeron in the place of those of the Pentium, it would cause the system to become unstable.
If it works with the Celeron, just do what steve said. No need to reinstall the OS after switching processors.
Are you using the heatsink that came with your Celeron? And (yes, I *know* it's a dumb question) if it wasn't a retail P4 that you got, have you applied thermal goop in sufficient quantity? (i.e. just over paper thin layer) The reason I ask is that, firstly if you are using the same heatsink, it may not be getting the heat away quick enough and secondly, if there's too much TIM it'll stop heat being sucked away by the heatsink and equally if there's not enough it won't be making good contact. Silly little things, but worth a check.
i applied the thermal paste my self and it wasnt the 1st time i did it. currently im trying to find a guide on how to flash my bios, if anyone knows where i can find a guide ill appriciate it.
How hot is the cpu when in the bios? edit: what speed is your ram? if its anything lower then PC3200 (assuming the P4 is a 2.4C), then i'd make sure its on a divider.
That board supports that cpu out of the box so dunno how much difference a bios flash would make. Could a be faulty cpu. Does the windows installation blue screen at the same point every time? Might be a scratch on the CD (had thss happen to me once).
