Modding PSONE LCD Mod

just got the samurize display done and the mount for my ps1 lcd is almost finished as well. heres a little hint for anyone wanting to mount your lcd in a drive bay, use and old psu cover its already the perfect size and easy to mount.

Hey just got a Matrox Mystique 220 to do this with, I already have the PSone LCD, Having some problems tho.

I cannot seem to make the Matrox go into 720x576 resolution which i need for my PAL screen.

I have the 5v pin off the back of the board to pin 12 to give me "DCC" and it comes on with the computer but alls im getting is scrolling colours nothing that even resembles a desktop.

Any Ideas?

 

Assuming you're using powerstrip, try tweaking your settings some more. Sometimes you have to sit there for hours trying to get them to work right. Can you get the 640X480i (Arcade) preset to work? If so, then you know the card and screen are functional. Try tweaking the settings some more, and see what you come up with.

Also, try to turn tiling off on powerstrip. I don't remember what to do, but search for "tiling" in the forums and you'll find something.

 

Hey, ive tried 640x480i (Arcade) and no luck. Powerstrip just changed the thickness and speed of the lines.

Can a PAL LCD work in 640x480?

I would assume so, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm not an expert on the PAL wirings, but I know for the NTSC, you're more successful if you wire the H-sync and V-sync to the C-sync. Since the DCC line is active in the PAL version, I don't know if it's any different. I would recommend getting a Matrox Mystique off ebay. It's cheap, and guaranteed to work. That way, when you install it (assuming it works), you can either try the other card again, or just stick with the mystique.

sorry, didn't know that the 220 wasn't any different from the regular. Have you extended your desktop to the other monitor? Is your computer recognizing the new monitor?

 

Yeah the matrox seems to be the only graphics card to detect it and when the comp boots it goes from black to the coloured lines suggesting its detected and recieving a signal

sorry some pics are blurry...its hard to capture good pictures in low light. i also included a pic of my desk, just for fun. and my config is kind of hard to see so i included a screen shot of my desktop. btw, my config was inspired by Nexxo's work. hope you all like it.

why did you have to cut the cables like this and where did you soldire them?

 

Awesome mod and i like alot of the setups that i see here. I was just wondering a few things before i set out to buy the screen and such.
I am gonna make this screen external and most likely connect threw s-video. so heres my shopping list.

PSone LCD
AC power adapter
3.5mm to red.white.yellow adapter
~~~~~~~~~ if i decide to go the VGA route
a vga cable that i will solder on

how is the screen powered? is it wake on connection or do i need to wire a button to it?

i have a ATI x800xl, if i decide to go the vga route will my card support it? i have a LCD hooked up the DVI, so the VGA port is always free.

I have read about 5 pages of this thread and found out alot information. let know if i need anything else please. thnx

 

Since your in the US, you're most likely going to need a button. Even though the PAL screens use some sort of "power-on" through the DCC line, I believe that since there is constant power, it will always be powered (you'll always have that lit up black screen). So get a button and wire it into the AC adapter.

The only way to know if your card works is to test it. Remember, you'll need powerstrip to get it to work (read back in this forum to find out more about powerstrip and its settings). If you can't get it to work, then you'll have to buy a card that you know is compatible (Matrox Mystique, Radeon 7000).

it is exactly the same thing except instead of soldering to the board (as shown in the BT article) he soldered it directly to the wires. And i like his guide becasue there are so many pics and not many words =) i dont like to read too much..hehe.

 

So now I'm running into a problem

I've got my new machine all up and running, most everything works as it should. I have the screen mounted in its nice new home in the front panel. I have installed a switch so that I can turn the screen on and off at my leisure. It works fine, but once I turn it off, and then turn it back on again, the screen is crazy, almost like powerstrip isn't even on. I have the lines going everywhere, it looks like it isn't tuned at all. I've tried reconfiguring powerstrip after this happens, and it changes nothing. I've even restarted the computer, but it doesn't fix anything. It seems that turning it off and on again is my only solution, as every once in a while, it catches and looks as it should.

Help!!! Any ideas?

 

Ok, so I did some more testing, and I found (at least) a solution. When I turn it on and the lines are running all over really fast, if I kinda half-flip the switch, then put it back to on again really quickly (almost like you cut power but throw it back in really quick), it comes back to normal. This is definitely a power issue. I have the switch on the blue wire running between the power board (the little board that has the 12v input plug on it) and the LCD control board. Is this a problem? Should I be putting it on the wire that leads from the power source,outside of the boards?

 

I found that if you turn it on, and then wait a few second (10 just to be safe), then it'll recognise and work correctly.

 

would this work as a power button? http://www.frozencpu.com/ele-70.html or do i need something that can withstand more voltage. i used that button as a power on button on my current case and it works great.
