    Day 1: September 2, 2005

    Recieved parts from FrozenCPU.com:
    1x Lian-Li PC-75B
    6x Lian-Li Thumbscrews - Black
1x Lian-Li 3.5" Bay cover with 3x switch holes with:
    3x Round rocker switch
    6x Zalman 80x15 fans
1x Ultra Bright White Flat Hyperlight
1x CoolMax 600W Modular ATX Power Supply
    1x PSU rubber silencer
2x SATA 24" single device cable
1x Vantec Black Nexus NXP-205 Rheobus (White LEDs)

The white thing will hold screws and other little bits throughout the project. The bags in it are wires from the Zalman fans, the bolts/brass-colored caps came with the fans, apparently for attaching to a specific heatsink. Anyway.

Here is the case after I've stripped out the unneccessary bits such as fans and drive bay covers. The front is masked off for later:

    ------------------

At this point, I'm waiting for all the other bits and pieces to get in. My order from newegg has been in my city since Sunday, but I won't get it until Tuesday because of Labor Day. :miffed:

So it seems that all the rest of the bits I've got coming in for this should be here by Tuesday or Wedenesday. Not much to do until then.

A minor addition to the log:

The intake cover on the front of the case isn't level when attached:

This, however, is a minor detail; I don't plan to leave it on.

I've got two pieces I'm working on in a CAD app, but they're a suprise :) (Plus the app is wonky and doesn't appear to have an option for perspective. So it looks really weird when I rotate stuff.)

I'd also like to point out that I love Lian-Li. All the important wires running from the front combine into two wires, then split back up to plug into the mobo. Very nifty.

At the moment nothing's installed in the case. I had the fan controller in for a bit, but took it out as I'm going to be doing some drilling and dremelling and don't want to mess anything up with shavings.

The wires in the case for HDD light, USB and such are visible in this picture. Very nicely combined into two cables. It's going to make organizing much more simple.

Finished the CAD work for the window that's going over the bezel:

The countersinks are for keeping the front of it flush as well as holding O-rings to reduce vibration from the fan. The window is 8" x 9.5"

nice work, i was thinking more about a basic layout plan for all ur components and stuff, like, do you have an ideas for effective cooling?

Fans. Lots of fans. It's just going to be a server, so beyond a heatsink and the fans i'm using, I don't see any cooling issues.

You going to do anything special to the sides?

    Like a name or anything?

Possibly, but unlikely. My intent is to keep it as clean as possible.

    Day 3 Part 1: Tuesday, September 6 2005

Many of the bits I've ordered should be getting delivered today, so here's a pre-everything update:

Last night I took the power supply apart:

    Leaving this:

The brass grill doesn't suit what I'm doing with the case, so I'm replacing it. While I'm at it, I'm going to replace the fan as well. As nifty as the 120mm fan is, there are niftier 120mm fans.

It'll take a couple of days to get here, though. :(

On a side note, I've emailed the guy that's going to be doing the fabrication for me the CAD file for the front window, so I should be getting a quote on it soon.

    I ... changed it a bit :)

    Received more bits on Wed.:

Like the hard drive that's going in:

Today, worked on replacing the fan in the PSU:

    Testing for fit:

I didn't end up using the fan grill at all. Anyway, PSU installed:

    And lit:

    Looks nice ;)

Only your 2 back fans are blowing in the wrong direction.

Yeah, I discovered this pretty quickly when I turned it on. They're all fixed, now.

Yeah. I'm not using this for much more than a server. My only criteria for the mobo was 6xSATAII, and this was the one that had it.
