    cheers sbe :)

The first attempt i had @ this solution was bulky and awkward looking.

AS you can see below...the bulky black leads just did not work!!!

In an attempt to streemline and make the detachable dual lights more eye pleasing i came up with this.

the method of making the Dual lights was the same as before but this time ive shortened the shank of the silde on light to help streamline,

also added "white" wires to help keep a cleaner more "intheme" look.

The cover with the slot type groove that slides over the edge of the motherboard cover.

The legs are bent closer to the LED this time.

White wire which is then covered in Clear heatshrink is soldered on

The step down resistor is then soldered to the end...this takes the "bulk" out of the loom.

A qick check of the plex cover shows that it can be shortened soome more!

after some more filing and a qik "frosting" the cover is ready and slipped over the LED's...a dob of HOT glue us used to hlod it in place.

Some Clear heatshrink is slipped over and shrunk down to complete the look and the whole loom is also covered with clear heatshrink.

I'm much happier with this look :)

Maybe you should reconsider renaming to DÈFrost¥âÑt¸.·´¯`¤. :D

You really take care of every detail. What else can I do than bow down to you?

Hey DÈF¥âÑt¸.·´¯`¤, I saw some of your work in a magazine today while browsing through the grocery store. I was like "hey, I reconize those!". Anyway, as usual, coming along great man, can't wait to see this one done yet, I think this is going to be the best one so far. :D

This is the continuation of the front panel idea. i had originaly made 3 light fins the top one will act as the door for the cdrom.

These were all made from 10mm thick plex cut then hand shaped.

The problem was, the top one bearly covered the cdrom hole.

Was time to craft a bigger unit !!!

This is a massive chunck of plex! @ near 20mm x 20mm this was not easy to bend into shape 5 mins of solid hot air gun had it like rubber.

It was then lay'd over the from of HP3's front and left to cool down and go hard again.

Clamping the plex to the bench and using the dremal to knock the corners off.

40 minutes of hand sanding and the new door is taking shape.

a quik test to see that it covers the cdrom opening

and its back for some more hand sanding

after another 20 minutes the peice is almost at the right shape.

some work is done to the matching middle strip

and the 3 peices wrk from large to small ...the larger veing the cdrom door the smaller 2 being for balance and athestics.

the thicker top plex contour will have to attach to the cdcrom door , for this a custom extension block is needed.

the block will act as the spacer between the new cdrom door and the cdrom tray itself.

The block is shaped to suit the conture of the new plex door

and a qick mock up is done to see all is goin to plan.

As seen above the new cdrom door has now been sanded with finer gritt paper and has a smooth frost look.

The spacer block is to be left clear and not frosted, holes are added to help lighten the load and to add some asthectics.

This new unit is not to be attached to the cdrom tray to become one.

Holes are drilled in the tray

matching holes are also drilled into the connecting block

Threaded using a 5/32 fine tap

the whole unit is then bolted together using hex head SS bolts.

With the cdrom in this now add as the joiner between the tray and the new plex door.

The front door will be eventually attached after painting of the case and a special "silicon strip of double sided clear plex tape " will be used to hold it in place.

The end look will be the 3 plex contours sitting spaced evenly and dual lit.

it does feel good to be modding this case again! :)

Agreed with above. Just what I thought. You let us wait a long time mate... but you did kinda nice things in this time. :D Btw: What about the 3rd of your 'weekend projects'? Did I miss it? Haven't had that much time the last 2 weeks... university, F.E.A.R. MP... ;)
And you love those hex bolts, don't you? You seem to hex bolt everything.

    Cheers frodo :)

just wating for the new plex case to arrive :)

yer!!! @ 70cents a pop! i won't be loving them for tooo much longer!

    Side Panel 1.

    Side Blades

To keep "intheme with the rest of the mod, ive decided to balance the case up with some "side blades" Again! these are hand sanded from single strips of 8mm thick clear plex.

The idea will be to add the blades to to fit in with the cut panel.

As seen here, i really like that way the cut shapes fit in with the overall look of the case.

The only prob is that the case looks "unbalanced" remember theres w whopping great 2 ltr tank sitting off the other side of the case... to leave this side "Flat" would make the case look unbalanced.

Not wanting to turn this side of the case into just another "bondo" moulded panel, i thought to work a look that would fit in and give me the "balance" im looking for.

Long winded sorry....but ive been thinking about this for 2 months now :)

HP3 with the ex hp2 side panel

The idea is pretty simple shape this peice of plex into a thinner blade.

the peice is "sliced " in half length ways.

after 20mins of initial sending the 4 blades are in ruff form.

2 hours later the blades are in almost final form.

The purple panel is sanded and re-spray putty'd and the Blades are layed on for a look.

The blades will have no "active" lighting at all...the idea is the light from within the case will be caught on the blades top edges providing the light needed to to achive the end effect.

i gotta admit! i wasnt to sure about what i had stated there!

so it was out for some qick testing!!!

The side on shot! dosnt show any effect.... altho this is under light,

but when you walk around the case!! the "Blades" come to life!!

thought i'd wire up the cdrom to power for a test "eject"

the lgiht source for the door is also passive!! no extra LED'S need to be added.

I't took a while to come with a solution that fitted in with the rest of the case..... the Blades are an easy yet effective solution to balancing the mod.
