Apple is planning an announcment for Wednesday. Most speculate that it's the delayed iTunes phone, but Kevin Rose's blog says he can confirm Apple will be announcing the Cingular Rocker phone and a new 2GB iPod called the Nano with a color screen and it will be smaller than the current iPod mini for $199 (no price on the phone). I was kind of hoping to see a video iPod, but it seems that there won't be one. :blah:

    edit: errr...and here's the link: http://krose.typepad.com/kevinrose/2005/09/apples_big_anno.html

You mean the ROKR phone, and the mooted 2GB Shuffle. The only colour screened iPods that have been rumoured are revamped iPod mini's - which may (or may not, depends on the rumour source) ditch the microdrive and go flash based, ala shuffle.

Blatently, can't see Apple doing this tbh. If they did then they'll deserve what's coming to them tbh.

    Have you seen it?

It is called the nano - and it's damn damn damn cool.
*As thin as a #2 pencil.
*2 or 4 gb of flash
    *replaces the ipod mini line
    *color screen
    *dock connecter

Yeah - the rokr phone is out now too, but who cares? The nano is cool.

Yep, they announced it today. You can see the iPod nano and the ROKR.

The nano looks really slick, very thin.

I actually like an iPod :worried: Nano in black is very sleek, but hasn't swayed me. I'd prefer the zen micro photo because of extra storage and OLED screen, but I've gotta say the nano's nb. Nevertheless, having a 2gb version is a bit pointless...

It does seem a bit too skinny.... wierd proportions. Like someone stuck a shuffle in a 20Gb's dock port and it gave birth to the nano...!

2GB does seem a little silly... I think 4 and 8 gigs would have been better choices. Or maybe 5 and 10, just because I like round-er numbers (though I like powers of two also :geek: )

    I want. Nay, I need a Black 4gb Nano. :D

It seems that the rumours where correct then - all flash replacements for the minis. And you where right about the name too, Tek. ;)

Nope. Just a headphone jack (on the bottom, next to the dock port) and the dock port.

I am sure there will be a nano remote before too long as the dock port allows for control.

Edit: PS - I broke 1000 points on parachute!!!!

    Also - Gravity hates bacon.

i was almost wanting one, then remembered why i need a new one:

    1. i broke the screen on my 20 gb whilst rollerblading
    2. 20 gb is getting to be too little for me, as my mp3 collection is rapidly going past 18 gigs, the top end of my storage capacity.

and i AM the kind of person who would snap it in half. somehow, i would end up with a $200 piece of snapped-in-half-crap within a week. which is why im getting an aluminum case next time i get an iPod.

Does "extended warrantee" mean ANYTHING to you?

That said, 4GB really isn't enough, unless you've either got a small collection or are fairly selective about what you load up. I don't have a whole lot but it still totals about 6GB.

The nano looks really nice. Personally though I'm waiting for something a bit bigger. Has there been any news of larger-capacity ipods being released in the near future? 60GB isn't quite enough.
