I haven't used my ND-3540a Drive for regular DVD's in awhile, about 1 month, I tried to use it today to watch Donnie Darko but it froze my explorer. I restarted my computer and tried another dvd, didn't work either. Updated my firmware to 1.03 didn't work either. My drive can read burned dvds and cd-rs. Anyone know what I can do now?

I have the opposite problem here. My cheapo, DVD-ROM drive, normally only used when copying discs, no longer plays DVD-R and locks up explorer. Never found out why... I'm just assuming it's b0rked, as it's very old.

Have you tried all the obvious things? DIfferent IDE channel, different master/slave settings?

Have you changed regions more than 4 times in the firmware?

Yeah people mentioned that your problem is similiar to mine. I haven't tried another IDE Channel yet. And I have never changed my region settings.

Dirty Laser? Maybe but I keep my room very clean so there is not that much dust around my computer. If it is dirty, what can i do?

LOL I do not want to do that... there must be a way to FIX it...

EDIT: NewEgg.com has approved to let me return it... One thing that is wierd is that they dont sell this drive anymore, what are they gonna give me in return?
