Dissasemble, spray keys black, use white tip-x pen to draw the symbols.

Do they make white sharpie pens?

It will probably look a little messy if you just draw them on. You could try printing them off and then making stencils.

You might try printing the symbols on cardstock or some other thick paper. Spread the symbols out across 1 or even 2 piecies of paper and print them the size you want them to be on the keys. Use an exacto knife to cut out the letters, and now you have a stencil. A coat of white spraypaint should do it, maybe a shot of clearcoat over the whole key later on.

exactly what hegemon says, save for the fact that keys usually have a concave curve and a stencil might over spray (former stenciler) anyways I would do the exact same, but on sticker paper which can be bought at office supply stores, it would give you nice contact with the keys and woudln't run through.

    something like this?

Had a mishap with beer and keyboard on the weekend, so figured I would have a play.
Tried to fill it with black paint to get some definition, but didn’t give enough time to dry before wiping off excess, still the residue now shows up the engraving plus how rough the surface is as the paint gets in every scuff. Wet and dry before paining would be a requirement.
I’d build in an allowance of two keyboards to die for parts for this mod as well.

It may not chip so much as just wear off over time- keys get a lot of play after all (especially the R, N, P, and O keys).

If you go with spray paint you at LEAST want to put a clear laquer over top for protection.

Ooh... nice idea!! Engrave the keys, spray them black, fill the engravings with UV active paint and put a UV bar above it :D

now we are going somewhere, just the filling of the keys is going to be a job for someone with a 1 hair paintbrush and a whole lot of patience

We used to fill dice embossing with PASTOIL
or an oil pastel crayon. Rub wipe clean let
stand a day and done. Worked really well
and you could likely find reactive crayon.

The wax will harden up so there is no smearing

really cool idea with the embossing of the keys!

I'd just find some dry transfer material and
rub down the symbology - lines and circles
are available for electrical symbols and alpha
characters. Much less work to strip the letter
and make up new keys with some rub down
transfer and clear it.... jus a thought....

    HI Guys,

I have done a keyboard modd, and a very good one If i says so myself, I cant take any photos as yet (digicam is being repaired).

I used a MS-Wireless Optical keyboard, which I sanded down, including all the keys 'cos the letters were raised, I then sprayed them silver & blue and painted bottom inside part of the keyboard with blue glow in the dark paint. For me the best part was the blue font which I designed with Photoshop 7. I then I printed the font on special-transparent-water-transfer-paper, called "SUPER-CAL" & "Last Step", look it up the stuff is magic.

So my suggestions to you would be to chose your font or design first, and once you have it, then start to mod your keyboard.

Let me know if you want anymore advise or info.
