    Building stuff with bare hands is my habit in my spare time. One day, while I was cleaning my keyboard, a crazy idea just popped to my head: I want to build a functional huge keyboard. In my blueprint, the keyboard should has the typing function as normal keyboard, at the same time, it should allow the user to type like hitting a sand bag, (Consider this function as free body building practice, now staying behind the computer the whole day becomes a little healthier. Plus, you know why mad you are when your computer doesn’t co-operate, you feel like you can smash something, well, here comes the keyboard!), at last, my keyboard could be a cool decoration on the wall!

    I tried to make a prototype key, it could be pressed down 2 to 3 millimeter, and works just like a normal key. With this prototype key, my idea of the multi-functional keyboard was proved could be done.

    The row materials are listed below:

    * Wooden board (MDF)
    * Plastic glass
    * 110 buttons/switches
    * 110 springs
    * 500 screws

    Building progress:

    Step 1: Cut the wooden board to squares to form the keys.

    Slicing the keys between a metal guide and the power tool 400 times to make them exactly square

    Step 2: Make the corners round and smooth.

    I had 4 possible key designs

    And I chose the key design which have only the top of the key rounded.
    Slicing the keys again between the metal guide and the power tool 400 times to make them round on the top

    Hi

    Nice project, but I recon it is't supposed to be used for speedtyping? ;)

    I have a question tough, how are you planning to connect it to the pc? Salvage a keyboard controller and attach every switch on it? And how big is it going to be?

    Keep up the work!

    Damn that's going to be a big Keyboard. I hope that the pc it's going to be connected to is using a really big TV as a monitor to match the keyboard. I will be following this project with interest.

    This rocks!

    Have you considered maybe mounting a PC inside the giant KB? I'm sure there would be enough room.

    It's not hard to see what he's probably going to do. You just have a bigass push switch behind each key, then solder it to the points that would connect on a normal keyboard PCB. Now, how does one do the 3 finger salute on that KB?
