The AMD will be cooler and, in most applications, faster :)

I don't think Battlefield 2 supports dual core. But it will still be fast and more and more games are coming out with dual core support so I think in the long run it's weel worth it.

Even if the game is single threaded there will be a slight increase in preformace by offload system task to one core and the game running on the other. Also the system will be more responsive durring heavy mutitasking

Also come late 2006 I think that dual core gaming will be mainstream, the benifits of it are amazing.
    BTW get the AMD ;)

Heres the scoop. The two processors i would buy at the moment are the 3800+ and 4400+, would never consider single core. If you are strapped for cash get the 3800+ and you will still have a good overclock and good speed. If you're good on the money situation get the 4400+, it will give you more speed overclocked and just be faster in general.

X2 3800+. Period. It offers much more performance per clock cycle, and is a dual core product. It will offer much better gaming performance due to the nature of the architecture in use by AMD, and the Intel is only going to be decent in Video Encoding. Trust me, you would be making a terrible mistake to get an 830; it doesnt offer nearly the performance of its AMD counterpart in the things that matter to you.

Not a whole lot of sense in that unless you're either running an actual server or are looking for the very best silicon for overclocking... usually they're a good bit more expensive (and I'm not sure that you can still buy 939 dual-core opties anymore).

But definately the AMD, and definately dual-core. While only a small number of games benefit from DC procs right now, the whole computing experience is almost from like... well... umm... I suck at metaphors, but it's hella smoother and overall far better, and supremely faster in the apps that can use it.

My 3800+ hasn't been a great clocker actually, but I'm 99.9% sure it's some setting I forgot about (or maybe I should up my RAM to 2.7v). In any case, the 2.38GHz it's at right now is suiting me fine, and most tend to hit around the 2.5-2.6GHz mark, but of course YMMV.

Go for the 3800. If it were me I would go for the 4400 or an opteron, but the 3800 should do you well.

I wonder why nobody recomended the intel. :hehe:
