Updated the X-Fire Mobo to the well designed Asus A8R-MVP.

Updates that I think are necessary:

For the Performance section, the CPU alternative (or indeed, the main choice) needs to be updated to include the recently launched FX-60. Also, as far as I know, there is no such thing as a 300GB Hitachi DeskStar - it comes in nearest at 250GB and 400GB capacities. For the ATi performance card, you should add the X1900XTX, which outperforms anything from NVIDIA at this time. The new Dell monitors are coming soon, so that is also something to consider when they're finally launched. For the Value SLI motherboard (yes, there is such a thing), you could also slap an Abit AN8-SLI into the list.

    dOH! :duh:

Thanks Hitman will change to the 500GB, I even typed 7K500....

Just read through the review (storage review) for the 7K400 + amazin prices at the mo so will add to "Best Buy".

FX-60 is very expensive but it does rock!

ATI performance card, take your experienced word on this (not bothered readin much) do you have a particular "brand flavour" thats worth noting "Sapphire are gettin a very good reputation for build quality"?

Yeah I hav read alot on the Dell monitors too :jawdrop:

    Abit AN8-SLI added to "Value"

    Thank again Hitman :cooldude:
BTW - Do you want me to remove the link to your Guide I was lookin forward to that, it is a huge task.

Keep it there for now - I'll post back if I want you to remove it. I do intend to keep it up-to-date and will resume writing it sometime this week (I've got a lot of work to do at the moment) :)

As for ATi brands... I'm not terribly sure on them, though I do hear good things about Sapphire. I expect that someone will post back at some point with their recommendation.

Just read the Bit-Tech review of the Plantronics Headset - looks very nice..
Does anyone know what the difference is between this and the Gamcon Pro ?

Any one got any suggestions on the gaps or changes etc?

    Thnx,

but the problem with that RAM is that it is only compatible with MSI, Epox and DFi boards.

I'm buying soon and I was looking for this thread - I was gutted because I thought it had been pulled. I could remember what it was called so I couldnt search for it.

Obviously it needs updating, but I think perhaps we should start a new thread (that points back to this as a sort of archive). Start with a clean slate, if you will... So much has gone on this summer, we might as well start from scratch.

Well that would work, if someone is willing to put the effort in to keep it updated. Mat-ster hasn't been online since june so... volunteers anyone?

May as well dump suggestions in this tread to get an idea of what to start off with, so... would a 6300 count as budget these days or would an AM2 dual core be the way to go? Seems the P5B Deluxe or that new Gigabyte mobo would be the top-line motherboards. I'd also recommend Speedlink Medusa 5.1 headphones as a cheap surround option, obviously not a substitute for a proper satellite setup but damn good for the money

I'd be willing to maintain it, although i think a new thread would have to be created, considering i don't have moderation rights for his posts, so i can't edit them :p
