Duplicate of my post in the apple forum

Windows Xp Sp2 on a Macbook Pro

I have to say the whole process was fairly painless the only issue I had was due to a hard disc error which was down to a bug in Photoshop CS2 as opposed to Boot camp or windows.

The process is fairly straight forward, certainly easier than any other I've seen.

Once you've booted off the windows xp disc is exactly the same as installing windows on any other machine. Only issues I've noted is the lack of the second mouse button which can be got around with this tool http://www.geocities.com/pronto4u/applemouse.html

I had a very quick play with counter strike and it runs just as well as my main machine, only complaint I had was that cs doesn't support the native res of the mbp but that I can deal with.

Hey, got it working on the family's new iMac, and whadaya know? They fixed the fan problem! Now we can REALLY get in game. No risk of burning the insides of our pretty little machines, YAY!

I'll might post some Futuremark benchmarks later if i can get the screen to run at the propper resolution.

    Hi all

I've run both 3d mark 06 and battlefield 2 now. Both run perfectly.

    3dmark 06

I had to run at the default res of 1280x768 as I don't have the pro version to test it on.
The macbook pro scored 1535 3d marks , the cpu score was 1658

Please note: I have the 2.0ghz dual core mbp with 2gb of DDR2 and a X1600 256mb gfx card.

Then I installed battlefield two which ran very well. The fans kick in with heavy 3d work which is good to hear.

Bout my Mac Mini Core Solo the day before this was announced, completely unknowingly, and put this on it last night. It's quite amazing, allows the Mac to run Windows just like any PC. The response actually feels better than my 3200+ Venice running at 2.7GHz. Need to try some gaming tonight, probably CS:S. Don't expect much from the Intel IG though :/

Righty then, I'll be the first one to jump in with the negative comments...j/k

I can see this is fantastic news for all the Apple users out there, but personally I couldn't care less. I mean sure, if Apples were reasonably priced, more tweakable/upgradable, weren't designed by Apple (etc), I'd probably make the switch - being able to use OS for general computing, and Windows for gaming would be sweet.
But atm, I just love PC's to much - the fact you can pick & mix hardware, and bung it all into whatever casing you like seems much better than having a 'clone' computer (similar reasons I won't buy PC's from folks like Dell, Evesham, Alienware etc - they're just not unique enough).
I just don't think that the 'designer label' image, and OSX are worth the extra cash...

Hmm, I suppose I could've just kept it short and sweet by saying "Nice, but not for me"...ah well...

    *awaits beating from Apple peeps*

Have you used OSX for a length of time? I brought an old G3 ibook late last year and since my PC has been switched on at most 10 times, and only because I need to use some windows only programs for uni.
OSX has its flaws, what OS doesn't but although my PC is much faster and my G3 is a little slow I can't help myself from using my ibook.

Now I don't need a PC to run specialist software every now and then I can use one machine to do both jobs. For me this news is excellent.

    Each to their own.

This is indeed excellent. Apart from the fact that I don't have a MacBook Pro and I need one even more now!

    Sigh,

I started out on a mac, and it just got old, too old. I really don't like apples world where they think everyone should live in a white cube with plexiglass floors. And Gates just can't let go of the past (DOS). I like linux, but windows plays my games. To me a mac is just not worth it.

Now, that being said. Get me the same exact thing for a PC, so I can run OSX on a partition on my 80gb... Mac pwned.

Although... to be honest i'd probably only use it like paprika, sparingly and rarely. I just think macs are inferior. And since the advent of SLI, they're not the graphic gods they used to be.

I just can't seem to find an upside, though I do have to say, it will now be nice that my macwhore friends can join me in a fragfest.
