yeh i was trying to work out how id get it spinning, i like your idea, although im not all tha sure how the metal sturcture....works (cant find the right words today). actually i dont know how u intend to build it at all, im tryin to think of a way u can explain it to me....hmmms i think id use a toggle switch to make it spin, is there a way i could get it to spin one way then the other or something? just so u know, my metal/wood/electronic working skills are non existant so it has to be explained simply (it can be hard to make, im not worried about that)
Plasticard, minimotor (10mm dia), big plastic cog. Double pole, double throw togle swithc also known as a changeover switch.
from what i can see there are two types of plasticard, could u find a link to a site so i know which sort you are reffering too? as for the spinning both ways i meant it could do a cycle of them, one way then another then back again, just like the gate dialing up, but id only have to press the button once.hmmmms
TOTALLY off the top of my head, never actually done anything like this, but for the event horizon effect, using a whole LCD monitor seems a bit like overkill to me. What if you made a 2cm sandwich of (from outside to inside): Plexi (outer window) Car mirror tint film Overhead transparency (with "wave" shapes printed white/clear on black) "Wave" shaped "honeycomb" structure with white/blue LEDs inside each cell. Depends on how hard you wanna go with this and how good you think it would look, but I reckon you could rig up a circuit with a microcontroller to cycle through the lights in a fading pattern to make something that would look kinda like (dodgy mock-up artwork ahead): Just throwing the idea out there for consideration... For the ripple effect - have a look at the way disco light gobos work: http://www.premier-lighting.com/sales/animate.htm There are ones which produce a perfect water ripples like effect. Set up a miniature projector and use a mirror setup of some kind to project it onto the event horizon...
I was considering doing a mod similar to this, but making a model of the SGC gate, with ramp and MALP, and putting an ITX board and webcam inside the MALP Then i remebered i ahve a low budget and hardly any time, so i went back to my first project
