Kurt Russel should be the go to guy, just like Clooney needs to be Sam Fisher. Another consideration would be Micheal Biehn, (Kyle from T1).

Yeah but Biehn's fallen into B movie land, and once you go B you don't go back. So seriously doubt Hollywood will pluck an A Class budget on Biehn, maybe Russel, maybe even Christian Bale with a beard. Who knows.
So long as they get an A Class director the film should do fine.

nononononono. Kurt Russel would be useless at his age and he doesnt really fit the bill.

The creator Hideo Kojima has confirmed that snake is based on kurt russells charector from escape from new york and LA but really i think the charector has taken on a life of its own since the original MGS.

I think they need someone that looks like snake but not someone majorly famous. Hugh Jackman looks similar to snake but his acting will seriously need to improve if hes going to base his persona on someone in a game.

If i was a director i would have my snake wannabe actor play the game or exposed to the main bits of it so he can understand where everything is coming from.
Atleast thats what i would do :)

    David Hayter has my vote.

I saw a few pics of him in a mag that interviewed him before MGS2 was released... I thought they modelled Snake on him, as well as getting him to do the voice... I dunno for sure, though...

    Thats Tom Cruise
    This is David Hayter
    [IMG]

Guys don't you think if Hayter actually looked like Cruise he would have been famous by now?
Now that you see how Hayter really looks you still think he can be Snake. I don't think so.

IIRC, Snake was 33 during the Shadow Moses incident; 35 @ the Tanker; 37 @ Big Shell :)

I second Sean Bean for Snake

LOL All the makeup in the world's not gonna take the milk outta this boy.
Plus I seriously doubt Hollywood's gonna sink a tank load of money on some pretty boy that nobody's ever heard of.

I know I'm gonna cop a flaming for this but here's a suggestion...

    Steven Seagal.

Just think about it, OK? We're looking for someone to play a character who's half-caucasian, half-native-American, with fighting prowess, a gravelly voice, indeterminate age but definitely over 30, a little stiff and distant, but with a heart of gold... Plus, I bet Seagal would enjoy the moralistic narrative style of the games, if it were carried over to the film. The two things I'd be worried about are: 1) Is he too old? (He's 55) 2) Even if he toned up again, would he still be too beefy to play Snake?

The guy doesn't just have to look like Solid Snake, it's more important that he can act like Solid Snake. Tom Cruise is a good fit for the looks, but I don't think I could ever buy him actually playing the role.

    Nezuji :)

I agree about the second point you raise, Nezuji... I don't think Seagal would be slim enough to play Snake.

But he could have the attitude down...
